Paul Sorensen Obituary

Paul H. Sorensen
Feb. 5, 1928 - Dec. 16, 2014
Resident of Kelseyville and Pleasant Hill
Paul Hillgren Sorensen passed away December 16th after a brief battle with cancer. Paul was born in San Mateo, Calif., graduated from San Mateo High School, and in 1954 earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Paul was an active member of the University of California Hiking Club (UCHC), where he met his future wife Elinor Robison, whom he married in 1953. Many wonderful years of camping and backpacking in the Sierra Nevada and travels elsewhere followed.
Paul worked first for the Alameda County Flood Control District, and then spent 30 years with the Port of Oakland, where his positions included Chief of Construction and Maintenance, Chief of Design, and Chief Engineer. Paul and Ellie settled in Moraga where they lived for 24 years, raising their two children. The couple later retired to Lake County where they spent 27 years, enjoying boating, gardening, and visits from friends and family.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Ellie Sorensen, daughters Lynn Sorensen and Karen Sorensen, son-in-law Ed Ballman, five grandchildren, and his sister Betty Cumpston. He was a kind, generous, loving family man and will be greatly missed. Donations can be made in his honor to Hospice of the East Bay or Yosemite Conservancy.

Yet another Good Man gone - too soon. ...Another gap in the shrinking campfire circle at our UCHC reunions. Paul's calm intelligence and always affable manner made him easy to like. He will be sorely missed!
