Mrs. Carolyn Hayes Reese died, December 16, 2007, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, New Mexico, after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 9, 1921, in the Redlake Community of Roosevelt County to Walter and Jessie Franse. She was the fourth child born in a family of twelve children.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Jessie Franse, her brother Clarence Franse, her infant sister Rusha Nell, her first husband Harold Topp and her second husband Randy Reese. She is survived by her brothers and sisters Marie Mackechnie (Lamb), Thelma Anderson, Donald Franse, Ida Lou Purdum, Helen Ruth Franse, Letha Mae Franse, Ralph Franse (Lucille), Roy Franse (Jerri Lou) and Betty McCormick; her stepdaughter and step grandson Betty and Mark Townsend; stepdaughter and granddaughter Becky and Kaitlin Reese; 2 nieces and 8 nephews.
Mrs. Reese grew up in Portales, attended Portales High School and later worked at the Clovis Hotel where she met her first husband, Harold Topp, and made her home with him in the San Francisco area for the next 35 years. Following his death she moved to the Clovis area and worked for Allsup's for five years. During this period she met her second husband, Judge Randolph Reese, from Hobbs, New Mexico. She made her home with him in Hobbs for 9 years. Following the death of Mr. Reese, she moved to the Clovis area where she has lived for the last 15 years. She lived very close to her brothers and sisters and during this period not only benefited from their friendship but was also generous and kind to all of her family. During the last years of her life, as her health failed, it was necessary for her to have in home care and she was very fortunate to have three people who loved and cared for her as they would have their own. They are Carolyn Leinberger, Iris Harrison and Joyce Williams. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clovis with Rev. Scott Blazek officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
