1934 - 2017
Dr. Christian Ayebeng Botchway passed peacefully into the Courts of The Most High God in the early hours of December 31, 2017.
Dr. Botchway was the undisputed Father of Dentistry in Ghana, West Africa, having throughout his career, fought for, organized, lobbied politically, and set up Ghana's first dental school. Trained at King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry England (1960), he attained further training at the Royal College of Surgeons UK, University of Toronto and Manchester where he attained his Licentium of Dental Surgery, Masters Degree in oral pathology (1967), and Ph.D. in Oral Physiology (1977) respectively. Throughout his dental career, he was honoured with many citations, honorary statuses, and awards.
Dr. Botchway, a passionate sportsman and golfer, taught and mentored hundreds of now successful practicing dentists the world over. His legacy seen in his pioneer spirit, passion of dental education, and mentorship was immortalized in West African history upon his generous donation of his clinic and dental estate situated on the West African Atlantic Coast, as an international Dental Centre of Excellence to The University of Health and Applied Sciences Volta Region, a pioneering University after his heart.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 53 years Lucille Botchway, three children: Mrs. Suzanne Banini-Botchway, Dr. Christine Botchway, Mr. David Botchway; and his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Banini and Vienna Williams. He will be greatly missed by family and chief mourners in Ghana: his beloved sister, Mrs. Caroline Oye Botchway; his cousins: Professor and Mrs. Samuel Ofosu-Amah, Professor and Mrs. K.A. Ofosu- Amah, Mrs. Abba Eastman Danso, and Mrs. Faustina Ampofo. He is also mourned by his extended family: nieces and nephews: Christian Botchway, Marian Mensah, Edward Botchway, Emmanuel Botchway, Marian Botchway, Christian Sackey, Myres Sackey, Bernard Sackey, Christian Botchway, Elizabeth Ofosu, Marian Kutey, and Edmund Botchway; as well as his in-laws: Mrs. Elizabeth Botchway, Mrs. Augustine Botchway, Hon. Mr. John Williams MP Canada retired, and Dr. Conrad Banini. His Legacy and Spirit will never die.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta. Entombment Service will immediately follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
