Dear Myrna and family,

We are so sorry to learn of your loss. Gordon was a wonderful neighbor who we will greatly miss. His generous devotion to maintaining a skating rink on the community pond every winter, yoyo tricks at the annual block party and friendly exchanges with us on his frequent walks were a source of light. We are so sad that he will no longer see him on our outings, but we hold him in our hearts dearly.

Our condolences to your family. Gord was the first to welcome us into the neighbourhood. I will miss our chats across the pond. We have so enjoyed watching Gord with his grandchildren out skating. What a wonderful grandfather! The pond will never be the same. We will miss Gord. x

Dear Mryna and Family,
It is with great sadness to learn of Gordon's passing. Our memories of you and your family are many. Always enjoyed your visits to Coachman's,you were always a pleasure to talk to. I was always amazed of your stories about your family christmas visits and all of your wonderful children and grandchildren. We still miss all those wonderful years of living there and knowing you as neighbors and customers. Your Tire store was a landmark for us for many yrs. and the yrs shared with my parents and brothers as a Flyers hockey player will always be part of our family memories.
Some people leave their mark in this world, and Gordon did this in a big way.
Our sympathy to all of you for your loss.
Love Gail and Joe Seede

Dear Myrna and Family. From reading a few of the entries here, I see many knew Gordon as an extremely kind and gentle man. That is no surprise. I have met many good people in my life but he was clearly the best. My mother Gladys Rechner is a cousin who has been in extended care the past 10 years. Gordon was a regular visitor until he got sick, just one example of his kind loving spirit. He was 10 years older than me but I have memories of him when he would have been around 16 taking me a 6 year old down to the corner store to buy me an Orange Crush when my parents visited Aunt Esther and Uncle Clarence. I met him various times when he was visiting my mother and he was still the same kind, friendly person I knew from 60 years ago. Words seem so inadequate at a time like this. Of course you know what a wonderful man he was. Perhaps there is some small comfort in hearing how highly he was regarded by those he came in contact with throughout his life. It was indeed a privilege to know him and to be related to him. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. Unfortunately I was out of province and unable to attend his service.

Dear Myrna and family. I have so many great memories of Gordon, the first being "Fort St John Flyer" after game parties at my parent's (Earl & Dorothy Watson's) home. As kids we were awed that a former, professional hockey player was in our home and such a gentleman and fun guy! He was always such a kind hearted man. Years later we enjoyed warm and laughter filled times while our girls danced at recitals and competitions, and at Expo '86 Gordon and I took the boys to Expo events. The world would be a better place if more men were like Gordon. And it was so wonderful to meet again in Edmonton 2 summers ago at the NDTS reunion. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours, Myrna. May God bless you at this difficult time, and always. Love to you and your lovely and loving family.

I knew Gordon Strate for far too short a time. I was first introduced to him when I was called to be his assistant as Membership Clerk at church. During my training I could feel his patient tender sweet spirit; and recognized his greatness as a man and leader. He touched my life in a way I will never forget. The world would be a better place if more men were like Gordon Strate. My short encounter with him was like the two men on their way to Emmaus, and after Jesus had left them their hearts did burn.

My condolences to Gord's family. My first memories of attending Edmonton Flyer's games was the guy with the same last name as ours. Much later I did meet Gord at Maple Leaf and Oil King alumni events figuring out how we were related. Both playing for the same organizations we did run into each other occasionally.

Gord was always a true gentleman who never failed to ask how you were, and how your family was. I was saddened to hear of his passing, he was a great guy that will be missed.

My Grandfather was always the grandest of all men. In my eyes he was most handsome and wisest of all. He always had big strong hands that gave the best hugs or help with lifting me up. Brother Strate was right up there beside my Grandfather. And I know his grandchildren think the same of him. Knowing someone like Gordon sets a standard to what type of men should be in your life. I am so very thankful for the time I had growing up with him as a leader for me and my family.
With every great man beside him stands a great woman and Sister Strate truly is amazing. I could see the love he had for her everytime they were together. I have so much love and respect for you Myrna and I know your surrounded by so many loved ones helping you. But if there's ever anything I can do please let me know.
Big hugs from far away xox

Myrna, my dear sister. Thank you for marrying Gord who became such a great friend and who I was proud to call my brother (in-law) for these past 56 years. He was always so supportive, kind and loving and probably best of all he was a wonderful and loving husband to you. I'll miss him! Love you. Doreen

Our condolences to the family. We both have good memories of Gordon. He was a good man who had many interests, and even more friends. He was a respected member of our community for many years. One of my fondest memories of Gordon was in his flower garden. How he loved to grow pretty flowers, a common interest we had.

It was 1970 and I was in Ft. St. John, BC being interviewed for my very first job in radio. The manager had offered me an alcoholic drink, and then a coffee, and then a Coke, all of which I declined. He said, "You're not one of those Mormons, are you?" I said I was. He said he had been told if a Mormon ever applied, he should ask if they are allowed to attend the big cathedral in Cardston. I said I was allowed to attend the temple. He then told me what he needed right now was someone he could trust. He said he only knew one Mormon and that was Gordon Strate and he knew him to be an honest man. He offered me the job. I have many people to thank for my career in broadcasting. Gordon Strate is one of them.
