Charles Vazquez Obituary

As Captain Kirk said, "If you are seeing this then I did not return from this mission".

Charles "Andy" Vazquez, born April 20, 1949, passed away on October 24, 2018. He was a proud native Houstonian and a 1968 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School. In 1969, he began his studies in Education at the University of St. Thomas, serving as the Student Body President and graduating in 1975 with a Political Science degree. He proudly earned a master's in Social Work from the University of Houston in 1995.
Andy played baseball at Settegast Park, sold the Sunday newspaper at Rice University and University of Houston football games on Saturday nights. He was a proud Cougar and product of Second Ward, "Segundo Barrio". Andy served his community as the President of the C.Y.O. at Guadalupe Church, the Wesley Community Center's Youth Director, a Boy Scout leader, softball coach of the Wesley Jets and Aces, and participated in many Foley's Thanksgiving parades. He was also a Tournament Director of the Latin American Softball Tournaments with the Rusk Athletic Club, a Harris County Precinct Judge, an honorary volunteer with Houston Tenneco Marathons, a volunteer of National Alliance on Mental Illness, a member of the Harris County Hispanic Caucus, and proudly served in John F. Kennedy's Peace Corps in Peru.
After relocating his family to El Paso, TX, he became the Residential Manager at the YMCA and the HLS Care Coordinator under Emergence Health Network for the past 13 years.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary T. Vazquez and sister, Dahlia Marquez. He is survived by his wife, Concepcion, and his children, Omar, Caroline, Samuel, and Andrew, grandchildren-Sophia and Ethan, his sister- Mary, brother- Joseph, and nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 7:00 P.M at Martin Funeral Home: 3839 Montana Avenue, El Paso, TX, 79903.
A mass will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 A.M at St. Joseph's Catholic Church: 1315 Travis, El Paso, TX, 79903.
Services in Houston will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe, with the dates announced later.

So sorry for your loss. May the arms of the Lord embrace and sustain you all during this most difficult time. I had to great pleasure of crossing paths as a young girl who spent time at the Wesley Community Center. Andy was a wonderful person who truly cared about his community and the kids in it. Thank you for sharing him with us. God be with you all.
