Irene Anderson Obituary

Irene Babo Anderson Beloved Aunt and Godmother Irene "Toots" Babo Anderson, 96, a resident of the Millcreek Manor passed away peacefully Thursday evening January 4, 2006 at her home after a long illness. She was born in Erie on October 6, 1910 a daughter of the late Martin P. and Isabelle Duerner Babo. Aunt Irene was blessed with the gift of humor and enjoyed playing card games, bingo, and crafts with her family and many friends at the Millcreek Manor and especially her dear friend Genevieve Izbicki. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Erik Arthur Anderson on June 7, 1980; 5 sisters, Margaret Mehler, Amelia Kibler, Kathryn Rettger, Rose and Clara Babo; a brother, Robert F. Babo; a niece, Sr. Catherine Rettger; a great great niece Lauren R. Kahle; and a great nephew David Rettger. She is survived by two nieces, Judith Babo Dufala and her husband George D. Dufala, Sr. and Marjorie Babo Fischer and her husband Richard F. Fischer, all of Erie; a nephew Donald W. Rettger and his wife Barbara of Erie; a sister in law, Ellen M. Babo of Erie. She is further survived by her great nephew and God Son George D. Dufala, Jr.; her great nieces, Jill Kahle, Jamie Weiland, Janna Fischer, and Suzanne Ross; additional great nephews, Gregory Dufala, Mark Fischer, Daniel and Dennis Rettger; many great great nieces and great great nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Road and Pine Ave., Sunday 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Chapel of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1553 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, 16510. The family would like to thank her caregivers and the staff "her second family" at the Millcreek Manor and Asera Care Hospice for the loving care given to her during her illness.
