James Engels Obituary

James Henry Engels ("Jim"), lifelong resident of Waterford, Pa., passed away unexpectedly, on June 5th, 2016. Jim was born to John Charles and Joan (Wells-Johnson) Engels on October 25th, 1955, in Erie, Pa.

Left to mourn his passing is his mother, Joan, his beloved wife, Melony Akam Engels, two sons: Micah James Engels (Barbara) of Erie and Jacob Eli Engels (Malu) and his pride and joy grandson, Noam of Wray, Colorado, two brothers: John Engels (Kathy) of Waterford, Pa. and Jack Engels (Cindy) of Union City, two sisters: Joanne Roney (Mike) of East Springfield, Pa., Julie Grace (Sonny) of Girard, Pa., father-in-law and mother-in-law: David and Rebecca Akam, and brother-in-law, Toby Akam (Jodi).

He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Engels.

Jim worked secularly as an electrician. He was both conscientious and skilled. He cherished the privilege of using his skills as a volunteer laborer to help build Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, and most recently World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses at Warwick, New York.

Through his 30 years of full-time ministry, and his time as an elder in the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, he touched the lives of many, many people.

We will remember Jim as a loving, thoughtful husband, a devoted, exemplary father, a loyal and kind friend, for his love of the outdoors and Jehovah's Creation, and a passionate and dedicated teacher of Bible truth. He raised our spirits with his unbounded joy in life and his happy dispositions. We will miss him every day until Jehovah brings him back to life in the Paradise earth.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 6 p.m. Perry Hi-Way Hose Co., 8281 Oliver Road, Erie, PA 16509. All arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.

It has been almost 20 years since I went to the Union City Kingdom Hall, but my memories of pioneering with Jim have been unforgettable. He was the one who told the joke to a bunch of us,"How do you get 3 pioneer sisters into an elevator? Grease their hips and throw in a snickers bar." His love of life was infectious, and yes, it does appear that he liked to live dangerously telling jokes like that! I look forward to seeing him again in the beautiful paradise earth! Much love to the entire Engels family!

Words can not express the sadness in our hearts. Jim will be greatly missed by us all, but only till the resurrection. I know Jehovah is keeping all our many many tears in a skin bottle (psalm 56:8 )and there to comfort us because he is near to the broken hearted (psalms 37:18). We are looking forward to the day when Jehovah resurrects Jim into the new wonderful world under his heavenly kingdom? Michelle misses her fishing buddy, but looks forward to fishing in paradise with Jim.
Love to all,
Jamie, Sandy, Ricky and Michelle Woodworth

Our Dear brother and long time friend as I always called him Henry. Jim and I learned the truth about the same time, of course he accepted it faster then I did. We knew one another in our school days, road the same school bus. He is the one who introduced me to the electrical work we do to this day, but more important we served in the same congregation for years. the last few years he worked for us, memories of Henry are all over our shop. What he is best known for is his teaching so many the truth about Jehovah being the name of the true God. He has many letters of recommendations from here is Pennsylvania to the west coast area. He is missed so much by so many as a long time elder/Pioneer and service overseer. I remember when he was feeling the pressure of life and something had to change. Elder or Pioneer? Well you know his love for helping people learn about his God Jehovah that he stepped down as a Elder and kept pioneering. We just have to admire that thinking. There is so much to say about a friend like Jim. He affected so many lives. We will miss him so much as a friend and brother, but we truly know in a short time we will welcome him back in Jehovah's time table. We all look forward to that day. Such a huge void for his dear wife Mel and his boys Jacob & Micah and their families. We all miss you my brother.
Till we meet again John 5:29

Melony, Jacob, Malu, Noam, Micah, Barbara, Joan, & all of the Engels, Roney, & Grace families,
Please know that all of you are dearly loved and are in our thoughts & prayers. We are so sorry for your loss of Jim. But we are so grateful for the time we were able to spend together at all of the Hetrick/Engels family reunions over the years, especially the last one at Johnny & Kathy's. We look forward to many more when Jehovah has made "all things new".
Much love, Sue, John, Jackie & Aaron, Jaimie & Francisco

I went to this page to write something down but found myself just staring at Uncle Jim's picture thinking," this isn't right." I'm reminded of him excitedly coming up to my van, where Marsha and I were waiting, so he could hook to my hotspot because he had met a foreign speaking man during cart witnessing and needed to download his language on his iPad. He always took such joys in the ministry. His joy was infectious. I miss him so much. Thank Jehovah that this loss is only temporary!!!!
