James Yaple Obituary

James J. Yaple, 92, of Warren, Pa., died at his residence, Tuesday morning, June 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. He was born February 23, 1919 in Erie, Pa. to the late Charles and Marie Krantz Yaple. He has resided in Warren since 1973 and was a former resident of York, Pa. James was a 1937 graduate of the former Academy High School and a graduate of Gannon College where he earned a teaching degree. He had served in the U.S. Army Medical Detachment as a Staff Sergeant during the Second World War. He was a life underwriter with the John Hancock Insurance Company working out of the Erie office, retiring in 1981after 29 years service. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church. James was a past president of the Full Gospel Business Mens Association and a former member of the Warren Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gertrude Green Yaple whom he married June 3, 1961 in Erie, Pa., six Children - Rick Yaple of Erie, Pa., David Yaple of Tampa, Fla., Marie Yaple of Erie, Pa., Mike Yaple and wife, Diane of Newtown, Pa., Craig Yaple of Warren, Pa., two Sisters - Phyllis Thornbloom and Marian Axelrod both of Erie, Pa., sixGrandchildren, one Great Granddaughter, several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one Son - Joseph Yaple, one Brother - Charles Yaple. Friends may call in the gathering space of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren, Pa. on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Msgr. John Lucas, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Erie, Pa., where full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army funeral detail. Those wishing to place memorials may do so through the Holy Redeemer Church Building Fund. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.
