Arthur James Whitmore, Jr, 88, passed away on 03 July 2016.  Art was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and grew up in Youngstown, Ohio.  After graduating high school, Art joined the Navy and became a surgical technician, assisting in over 100 operations.  After the war, he attended night school at Youngstown College, where he studied math.  After graduation, he taught Calculus at the same school.

Art's career includes time at Westinghouse, Polygram Records, and Hammermill.  He was involved in early computer programming and large-scale business computers.  An early user of the computer language COBOL, he served on software steering and standards committees.  He retired from Hammermill Paper Co. in 1983 after suffering a stroke, and moved with Anne, his wife of 52 years, to Suntree, Florida.  Art has lived at Town Square since 2008.

Preceded in death by his wife, Art is survived by 3 children and 6 grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed.  Condolences may be expressed at Florida Memorial Gardens.
