Thelma Baker Obituary
- - Thelma Jane Kemp Baker, age 99, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at her home in Greenwood Place in Melbourne, Florida, surrounded by friends and family. Born on July 2, in Greenwood, Indiana, Jane was the oldest of five children born to Horace Noble and Marion (Dwyer) Kemp. Jane served in the United States Navy during World War II, and later obtained a degree from Hanover College. Jane was married nearly 70 years to Klinedale James Baker and had four children. Jane worked as a teacher, a social worker, and a freelance writer. In 2006, she published her memoirs in her book, Love Makes the Ride Worthwhile. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Frances (Charlie) Shepherd, her brother Charles (Gladys) Kemp, her brother Robert Kemp, and her son Gregory James Baker. Jane is survived by her husband, Klinedale, brother Jack Kemp, daughters Teresa Jane (Joseph) Pratt and Marianne Baker (Robert) Ball, son Phillip Michael (Mary) Baker, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ascension Catholic Church on January 31st, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. with military honors. Interment of ashes will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Rockville, MD.

Jane Kemp Baker was my FAVORITE aunt in the whole world! I have so many wonderful memories over the last 45-50 years I couldn't begin to name them all! One that I do remember very well is about her & my Uncle Klinedale's youngest child, Marianne Baker-Ball. I ALWAYS used to say that Marianne was my FAVORITE COUSIN. She still is and ALWAYS WILL BE! I used to cry whenever I had to leave Marianne! Aunt Jane, you will be missed by so many people. We are comforted knowing that you are with God & his son in heaven and free of pain and disease! I will ALWAYS love you Aunt Jane, you are my favorite aunt and always will be! I will see you in heaven some day!!
