My favorite coach of all time. A class act and wonderful mentor. I'll never forget him

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Kemp's passing. He was my homeroom teacher at North Side for three years and always made mornings fun. He was also on the track team with my Dad at North Side although my Dad was older (he passed at age 87 in 2006) so there was another personal connection there. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss which is also a loss for everyone who knew him. Susan Morris McGee, Sarasota, Florida

Don was my teacher and coach at NSHS. Later his mother in law married my uncle. We would see him at family events. Just one great guy. Our prayers to the family.

Diane, sad that we are reconnecting over the passing of your father. He was a very special person, and even though he is gone he will live in your heart forever. My thoughts are also with your dear mother and your siblings. I also wanted you to know how fond my parents (who died in the late 90"s) were of your parents. They were neighbors and best friends. I, too, now live in Colorado. Peace!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Like you I was lucky enough to have my Dad for 92 years, and he and my Mom were married for 69 years. But no matter how long we have them, it is still difficult to be without them. Take care of each other through this trying time. Diane, I did not know you lived in Colorado. So do I!
I took this picture of Don Kemp on the Kemp's back porch when I was there this past August.

I just this moment learned of Don Kemp's passing. I am so glad that I saw him and his wife June when I was in Fort Wayne this summer. Diane and I were buddies all through school and the Kemp's were pretty much my second parents. It's hard for me to believe that he's gone.... Diane and all the Kemp's, please be assured of my prayers.

Mr. Kemp always treated his students with respect and as a result, was very much respected by all. That continued in his retirement years.

To the Kemp Family:
I entered NSHS in 1950 and played on the football team. During the off-season Don was our physical trainer and I came to know and admire him greatly. After graduation in '54, lost contact but have never forgotten that man. A great coach, mentor and friend. A good man...May you rest in peace, Don.
