Raymond McAhren Obituary

RAYMOND C. McAHREN, 95, of Decatur, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, 1:07 p.m., at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur. He was a lifetime farmer and worked at Decatur Casting for 25 years, retiring on Jan. 4, 1976. Since 1993, Ray had been a humor columnist with "Farmer Stick-In-The-Mud" column in newspapers in 26 states, and locally in the Decatur Daily Democrat, Bluffton News Banner, and Berne Shopping News. He was a member of Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene in Decatur. Survivors include daughters, Nina (Jerry) Workinger of Estill Springs, Tenn., and Miriam Jackson of Berne; son-in-law, Rodger (Gerry) Frey of Decatur; nine grandchildren, Brenda (Phil) Kizzee, Pam (Mike) Woudstra, Julie (Jeff) Luginbill, Robin Alberts, Jenny (Ken) Johnson, Scott Workinger, Annette (Jack) Noe, Troy (Carol) Jackson, and Anthony (Krissa) Jackson; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delila Adams, in 1996; daughter, Mrs. Ellen (Rodger) Frey in 1979; grandson, Ray Workinger, in 1986; and four brothers. Service is 10 a.m. Thursday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
