Joseph Bascom Obituary

NOTTINGHAM — Joseph Andrew Clough Bascom, a lifetime Nottingham resident, left this world for the next, Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, following a wonderful Christmas Day with family. He died at home in Nottingham surrounded by family and friends.

Though he suffered Diabetes and complications since he was nine, Joe remained a steady presence, showing the strength, humor and love that characterized his life. Joe was born March 27, 1967. The youngest son of Frances and J. Rodney Bascom, he enjoyed working and spending time with his extensive family. He worked on many different projects, including a sugar house, rabbits and sheep, and "Joe's Scrap Pad," a small room in the barn that he made his own. Always a hard worker, a strong member of the 4H and FFA (National FFA Organization) and a graduate of Dover High, he enjoyed logging and tree removal, making hay, maple sugaring, raising a variety of livestock, and agriculture education.

In 1983, Joe met Susan LaMotte and fell in love. They married April 27, 1985 and were blessed with four children. Through their parenting, Joe and Sue inspired passions for agriculture and animals, an appreciation for hard work and responsibility, a love of life and family, and a faith in God. Joe managed farms for UNH for 15+ years and did tree and tractor work around town. A member of Third Baptist Church of Center Strafford, Joe enjoyed leading a youth Bible study with his wife. Strong and God-fearing, he labored to bring Christian hope and understanding to local youth. In 2001 and again in 2002, Joe miraculously received kidney and pancreas transplants which gave him another ten years with family. Following 26 years of marriage and countless health crises, Joe and Sue's relationship remained strong and their love had become a gift to be envied and cherished.

Family members include his wife, Susan Bascom; four children, Grace, Andrew, Laura and Carrie Bascom; his mother, Frances Bascom; seven brothers, two sisters, foster siblings, nephews, nieces and extended family.

He was predeceased by his father, J. Rodney Bascom.

Chuck and I celebrate with Joe as he now resides with our Savior. Yet our hearts are so sad for his precious family and many friends who will miss him dearly. Chuck first knew Joe at UNH and was always struck by his strong work ethic and love of family. Our years worshiping together at Third Baptist Church hold many cherished memories. You are home now, Joe. In God's time your family and friends will join you. With lots of hugs and prayers,
