Elizabeth Baumgardner Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth Leister Baumgardner, 87, of Taneytown, died Sunday, Aug. 22, at Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa.

She was the wife of James Currens Baumgardner who died in 1980.

Born Feb. 21, 1912, in Taneytown, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Leister Wilt.

Mrs. Baumgardner graduated from Taneytown High School and attended Hood College.

She was a charter member of the auxiliary to Taneytown Volunteer Fire Co.

She was a member of Taneytown Heritage Commission, Silver Fancy Garden Club, Republican Women's Club of Taneytown and was active in county and state Republican politics.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Taneytown.

Surviving are one son, Dr. George R. Baumgardner and wife Selena of New Vernon, N.J.; two grandsons, James R. Baumgardner and wife Ann of Falls Church, Va., and Robert D. Baumgardner of New York, N.Y.; one cousin, Leah Baumgardner of Taneytown; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Wilt King.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Skiles Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown. Her pastor, Rev. John S. Douglas will officiate.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
