I saw the photocopy of the obituary at the watch desk at station 2 (Dearborn fire department) I've been here 23 years but never had the opportunity to meet him though I heard his name on more than one occasion. Thank you for the wonderful look into his life and to whom he was. So sorry for your loss.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Godwin or his family. I read this exquisitely written obituary and I now feel as though I do know this salt of the Earth giant of a man! My own grandfather has been gone since September 2009. He too was a World War II veteran, and at just 5 feet tall, to my 6'3, he was larger than life! Your heartfelt and absolutely raw emotion is so moving and you paint a picture of this man that makes him so real for even those of us who are strangers!
Tonight, before I go to bed, I will have a drink of Crown Royal, I will toast the memory of Kenneth Godwin, and I will pray that he again holds the hand of his beloved wife as they both gaze upon the face of a loving God because from what I read no one is more deserving of Eternal Peace!
My deepest sympathies to ALL who loved this fine man! My prayers to firefighters across this great land! Eternal Rest grant unto Kenneth O Lord!
A fine example of The Greatest Generation has come to the end of his time here on Earth, hold him in the palm of your loving hands and comfort those he held so dear!

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I first met Ken when he served on the City pension board. He certainly will be missed. The obit is a great tribute to him. Am sure he and Norma are smiling down. Please let me know when the memorial service will be held. Thank you.

I don't know your family at all, but I do read the obituaries in the Free Press every day. The remembrances of your father were so very heartwarming. I feel like I knew him too. Such wonderful memories to comfort you as you go forward in your time of grief. I'm so sorry for your loss especially under the current circumstances.

I didn't know your grandpa but after reading that beautiful obituary in the Detroit Free Press this morning, I got a wonderful glimpse of his life and legacy. Thanks for sharing him with us all. Wouldn't it be everyone's dream that when the final period on the last sentence of your life is written, it is a story filled with passion, love, and laughter? I am also sure that when God welcomed him in, He wrapped his arms around him and said "well done, my kind and faithful servant." What a beautiful story. Prayers to you all.

I always looked up to my Uncle Ken. He was bigger than life. One of my strongest memories of him was him playing softball on the Fire Department team, even then they called him the "Old Man." Might be where I got my desire to play! He was always smiling and ready to share a joke or story. His devotion to anything he did was unmatched. Rest in peace Uncle Ken.
