Nell, Sheri, Tracey & Joe:

I just found out several days ago that Joe had passed & wanted to let all of you know how sorry the Lee family is at his passing. He was a wonderful friend to our family for many years & I always appreciated very much the letter of recommendation he wrote on my behalf when I applied to UNC. I'm sure you all know he has gone on to a better place where he is healthy & whole again, please know that all of you are in my thoughts & prayers.

Mr. Alala was a legendary leader in the tax bar. I met him shortly after I started practicing law in Charlotte, and he was a role model for many young tax attorneys in those days. I had the pleasure of being asked to help him on a project several years ago, and I considered that to be one of the greatest honors another tax lawyer could receive. I was very sorry to learn of his passing.

Basil Alala was a very special part of my childhood here in Greensboro. We grew up in the same neighborhood and attended the same grammar school. We then went our separate ways. Upon reading his obituary revealing all of his achievements, I was not surprised since he started out the head of his class with excellent conduct and impeccable manners!
Your loss is Heaven's gain for a wonderful man I was proud to have known and loved!

Gail,
Although Joe is at peace now with no more suffering, we will still miss his style of humor. I feel saddened to know that most of the people who knew him, didn't have the pleasure of knowing him these past several years. You added something to his life that no one will ever be able to take away. I love you and I'm proud to say you're my sister.
