Mark Meunier Obituary

MONTAGUE – Mark Wilson Meunier passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Monday, June 12, 2017, after a long illness.

He leaves his beloved wife Trish Mailler ;and his extended family Susan Mailler and Jim Adams; Betsy Mailler and her daughters Heidi and Krista; Bill Mailler and Lee Phylborn and their daughters, Christen, and Lindsi; as well as his beloved step-daughter Sierra Hart; and step-son Jules Gehrt; their grandmother Marjorie Morgan and dear friends Mary Ryan and Lynne Schachne. He was recently predeceased by his mother-in-law, June Denton, with whom he had a special bond.

Mark grew up in Longmeadow, and moved to Maryland with his family when in high school. He studied art at Montgomery College and moved in the early 1970's back to the Pioneer Valley. He proceeded to buy, renovate, and sell many houses while at the same time, work on his craft of egg tempura painting.

He began showing his work at Michelson Galleries and, as success came, Mark's paintings sold at galleries in Manchester, Vermont, and Orleans on Cape Cod. His fine egg tempura work stunned everyone with his realistic style and it was highly sought after by collectors. Mark continued painting and drawing right up to the end.

Two rare cancers took his life, and he was forever grateful to Hospice of Franklin County, Alana, Jenn, and Mara and to the folks at Cancer Connection in Northampton, including his Reiki healer Nancy, for the wonderful care they gave him.

If you desire to make a memorial donation in Mark's name, please consider these two agencies.

Interment is private. However, a celebration of Mark's life and work will be held June 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. at R. Michelson Galleries on Main Street, Northampton, MA. All are welcome to attend.

Mark gave me my first job in Western Mass-at his frame shop in Amherst, MA. In addition to teaching me how to make a frame, he taught me a lot of what I know about being a kind and generous person.

Just reading over this guestbook and remembering Mark and missing him and knowing Trishs grief right now ❤❤

Mark offered me a part time job as a picture framer in the mid 90's and I took over the business in '97. I remember his kindness and gentle spirit and his incredible attention to detail. I'm extremely saddened to hear of his passing. Rest in peace.

Mark--your work stuns but it was your kindness and calm that worked its own magic. I am out of the country till September, but will think of the gathering at Michelson's all today and wish I could be there to celebrate your life and many gifts.--Jane Yolen

Too soon gone! We will miss you dearly. Our memories of our oven vacations at the beachpoint club with you and Trish are precious. And staying in your various houses and helping you move. And cooking and sharing good food. And our mutual love of crystals, and of Trish. Thank you for your open heart and wisdom you shared.

Mark, you and your beautiful images will be missed in the egg tempera community. Thanks for sharing some of your brushes and pigments with me before you passed on - they'll find a life in my next painting. When I use them I'll enjoy thinking of you, your remarkable artwork, and our painterly camaraderie. My condolences to Trish and all your family and friends.

Mark, you left footprints behind with your amazing work and also on the hearts of those who love you. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. I am so grateful that we got to know you and that my sister met the love of her life. Hugs and love to Trish. May the love you shared carry you until you meet again.

Mark and I became friends about 25 years ago. To me he was one of the kindest and most peaceful people I've ever met. Besides being my favorite artist in the Valley he was an excellent golfer who introduced me to the game. After playing hundreds of rounds with hundreds of different kinds of people hanging with Mark every week for many years was the best. His calmness was contagious, his swing was beautiful to watch and he was quite simply a joy to spend time with. I'm so happy I made a point of seeing him almost every week over the past six months. It meant as much to me as I'm sure it did to him. Miss you already Mark! Rest in Peace my good friend!
