Mark gave me my first job in Western Mass-at his frame shop in Amherst, MA. In addition to teaching me how to make a frame, he taught me a lot of what I know about being a kind and generous person.

Mark offered me a part time job as a picture framer in the mid 90's and I took over the business in '97. I remember his kindness and gentle spirit and his incredible attention to detail. I'm extremely saddened to hear of his passing. Rest in peace.

Mark--your work stuns but it was your kindness and calm that worked its own magic. I am out of the country till September, but will think of the gathering at Michelson's all today and wish I could be there to celebrate your life and many gifts.--Jane Yolen

Too soon gone! We will miss you dearly. Our memories of our oven vacations at the beachpoint club with you and Trish are precious. And staying in your various houses and helping you move. And cooking and sharing good food. And our mutual love of crystals, and of Trish. Thank you for your open heart and wisdom you shared.

Mark, you and your beautiful images will be missed in the egg tempera community. Thanks for sharing some of your brushes and pigments with me before you passed on - they'll find a life in my next painting. When I use them I'll enjoy thinking of you, your remarkable artwork, and our painterly camaraderie. My condolences to Trish and all your family and friends.
