Ralph Stuart Obituary

Ralph "Doc" Stuart

January 16, 1926 - February 16, 2021

Ralph W. Stuart died on February 16, at HopeWest Hospice of Grand Junction.

He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Herbert and Julia (Short) Stuart. Ralph graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1943, and then took some pre med classes before joining the United States Army Air Forces as a Medical Corpsman and Airplane and Engine Mechanic in 1944. From there he went on to study at Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After graduating Ralph began his studies at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, earning his D.O., there and was member of Psi Sigma Alpha.

He married Gerry Williams in Kansas City on January 13, 1951, and they had a son, Evan, on June 14, 1952. Soon after, they moved to Tulsa, OK, where Ralph did his residency. They then moved to Grand Junction where he worked in Radiology at Community Hospital from 1961-1990.

After retirement Ralph followed his many passions and worked several years as a backup radiologist. He was an avid rock hunter, collector and enjoyed faceting. He was a member of the Grand Junction Gem and Mineral Club and the American Society of Gemcutters. Ralph served as President of the Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine and was a lifetime member of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology. He also served as President of the Redlands Rotary Club and enjoyed being a member of the Porsche Club of America, attending many rallies over the years. Much of his time was spent traveling, especially in his RV with wife Gerry, and later his companion Helen.

Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; grandson, Ian, and long-time companion and best friend, Helen Kauffman.

He is survived by son, Evan; daughter-in-law, Linda, and grandchildren, Brendan and Zoe.

Callahan-Edfast Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service is not planned.
