Doug Wilcox Obituary

Doug Wilcox March 4, 1967 - June 6, 2008 Doug Wilcox passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on June 6, 2008. Doug was born on March 4. 1967, at Lemoor Naval Station in California to Richard and Margaret "Peg" Wilcox. In 1968 the family moved to their farm in Loma, Colorado. He grew up with his brother Kenny and sisters Nancy and Kathy. Doug loved growing up on the farm working with Richard and Peg raising hogs and crops. Besides farming, Doug worked with his dad and brother in Wilcox Land Construction. Doug and Susan became the sole owners in 2005. Doug loved sports, especially baseball. He played Little League and summer softball. Doug always played the game ALL OUT. Doug grew up attending the Loma Community Church where he was baptized and actively involved in the choir. Doug loved working with livestock and farming. Doug worked hard and was successful in everything that he did. In 1990 Doug purchased his own farm which he was still farming at the time of his death. It was natural that Doug would fall in love with and marry a farm girl, Susan Hodson, also of Loma. Doug and Susan were blessed with two sons, Drayden Lute Wilcox and Braxden Rance Wilcox. Doug enjoyed all types of hunting and shared many wonderful hunting experiences with Drayden and Braxden. They were the center of his life. Doug and Susan worked hard on the farm and felt it was important to raise their boys on the land. Doug and Susan sub-divided a portion of their farm to create The Canyons. They named Lute's Crossing Drive after their son Drayden and Rance Canyon Drive after their son Braxden. Doug was on the Board of Directors for the Grand Valley Irrigation Company and the Colorado West Paint Horse Club. He was also a past board member of the High Country Pork Producers. Doug had many great accomplishments in his life. We were so blessed to have him as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. Doug is survived by his wife Susan, sons Drayden and Braxden, his father Richard Wilcox (Norma) of Clifton; brother Kenny Wilcox, sisters Nancy Thompson (Dustin), Kathy Capps (Todd), his in-laws, Bert and Bev Hodson, sisters-in-law Katie (Bruce) and Tammy. Doug was a special uncle to Sabrie, Tayler, Megan, Colby, Payton, Bailey, and Jay. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Peg, and an infant brother. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Fellowship Church, 765 24 Rd. in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for Doug's boys at Grand Valley National Bank in Fruita, CO. Arrangements entrusted to Snell-McLean Funeral Home.

Sue & Family,
My sympathy to you all. It must be so difficult for you right now but it sounds like you have a lot of friends and family near to help you through this very painful time. God never gives us more than we can bear so cling to His awesome healing power.
I can remember so vividly Doug, Carl Hatch and I standing up in the choir at Loma church singing on Sunday mornings and after church we would go riding in the hills then end up at Taco Bell by the mall for lunch. Doug liked his tacos.
His presence on this earth will be dearly missed but we will all re-unite some day in the air. May the Lord bless you and give you comfort.

Your family is in my prayers during this time. Doug was such a strong part of my childhood. I can remember him and my dad going hunting, a lot. I can remember going down the road to his house with my dad and my dad fixing up his truck, because Doug got a new one. I have a lot of fond memories of him. He was a truly amazing man.

Wilcox Family; I am so Sorry to hear about the loss of Doug. It is very hard to really know what to say at this time. I want to let you know, that if it wasn't for Doug, Brad would not of known had to water and take care of the hay. Doug was a great cook too, he knew how to make sure everything was done right, and had plenty for everyone. I really enjoyed my 40th birthday party. I will always remember it, because of the pig Doug cooked for it.
You all are in my prays.

Sue and family, We felt priviledged to attend today's services. The slide show was wonderful. I hope it will be a comfort to you and the boys in the days to come. We also loved seeing the little boys looking at the photos of your family while the sermon was being spoken. Your boys will have some big shoes to fill, but I have faith that they will do it. Their Dad will be watching to make sure they do. Doug was a good man. He will be missed greatly.

Dear Sue and family,
I am the niece of our Beloved Aunt Barbara and Uncle Carroll. My sister Sylvia, Brother Duane and I were privileged to sit with our widowed Aunt Barbara to watch her beloved Grandchildren play baseball on a visit there. I just know that one of the players must have been Doug. She was so pleased with every one of her Grandchildren. She watched carefully as they played the game. Her Children and her Grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would write letters and tell us all about each of you and the things you were all doing. She was one of the best mothers as well as Grandmothers ever. You may always know the Wilcox family is a strong family and they had much love for each other. You are all caring that on right now as you gather to comfort and help each other.
You may be assured that Aunt Barbara prayed up to her last breath for all her family. She ministered to me greatly and encouraged me at the loss of my mother when I was 14. IT is a hard road without a beloved mother or father but with God we are never alone. HE promises to be with the widow and meet each need and HE WILL!!
I love Psalm 91. I memorized it once and it is in my heart today. (Well at least the first part is) My heart aches for all of you. I do have to tell you though that I know Aunt Barbara is having Doug sit right by her side catching her up on all that has been going on down on this earth since she went to meet her Master. Well along with her is a family gathering actually for there are many of those beloved ones there. It will be a fine day when I get to meet Doug up there and be with our families.
Much Love
Cousin Beverly

You were a special friend in High School. I wish we could have kept in touch over the years. I pray that the Lord keep your precious family in His hands and give them added strength in this time of sorrow.

It is hard to say why such a good man as Doug was called home early, except that God must have needed a loving hard working man in heaven to help spread His glory. It was my honor to know Doug and work with him and Sue. My heart aches for the family, but we will be seeing him again in the near future.

Kathy's and my prayers are with you all during this time. May the Lord comfort you and hold you during this time.

With our heart felt sympathy to all of you, Tim & I feel priveleged to know such a wonderful family as Doug's. Our hearts go out to each & everyone of you. Doug had the ability to light up a room when he entered. No one was a stranger to Doug. Doug's strengths were passed on to his boys. Drayden, you are a hero in your Father's eyes as he continues to watch over each & everyone of you. Sue, please know we are here for you & the rest of the family. Kenny, Nanny & Kathy, you are blessed to have Doug as your brother. I've heard the stories of how Kenny & Doug watched over their sisters as they grew up. Richard, you have a family to be proud to say you raised. God bless all of you. Know God only takes the best. Doug lived a short life, but lived it his way. We will see all of you soon. Love to all.
