Oscar Pallares Obituary

Oscar Pallares, PharmD, passed away on April 15, 2016, at the age of 86, from Multiple Myeloma. He died at home surrounded by his loving family.He was born and raised in Los Angeles, attended Mount Carmel High School ('49) and USC ('55), served in the Army for two years, married Mary Reveles in 1956, and bought his first pharmacy, Kenneth Road Pharmacy, in 1959 in Glendale, CA. At one time he owned three pharmacies. He retired in 2009 after 54 years as a pharmacist.At USC he was president of the pharmacy fraternity, Phi Delta Chi, member of Skull and Mortar, and after graduation he remained a true Trojan, attending home and away football games and home basketball games. He remained active and supportive of the School of Pharmacy serving on the Board of Councilors and QSAD.As an alumnus he was a member of Presidential Associates. Cardinal and Gold Premier, and Skull and Dagger. In 1986 he was named Alumnus of the Year by the School of Pharmacy, in 1993 he received the Fred B. Olds Award from the USC Alumni Association, and in 2009 he received the AAAE Alumnus of the Year Award from Phi Delta Chi Omicron Alumni Association.He supported many organizations including the Order of Carmelites, Loyola High School, the USC Caruso Catholic Center on campus, and the Institute of Advanced Catholic Studies.His greatest pleasure was watching his six children graduate from college, receive advanced and professional degrees, and maintain successful careers.He was a devoted retail pharmacist acting as a counselor to his many cherished customers, medical advisor, youth employer, and at times, bail bondsman.Oscar leaves his loving wife Mary of 59 years, his sister Mary (Babe) Hernandez, his six children: Jean Marie Pallares-Leonard (Tom), Bernard, Christine, Robert (Jeannie), William (Kim), and Julia Apgar (David) and his six grandchildren: Sean, Nick, Christopher, Charlie, Katie, and Camille.Memorial Mass will celebrated by Mary's nephew Fr. Eugene Smith OSM with Msg. Steven Zak and Fr. Greg Goethals, SJ., on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Incarnation Church, Glendale. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Order of Carmelites, Encino, the USC School of Pharmacy Margaret and John Biles Leadership Center, or a charity of your choice.
