PETER ANDRIESEN Obituary

Peter (Pete) Lee Andriesen, 85, of Anacortes, passed away at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to complications from a fall on November 15, 2019.
He was an educator, draftsman, artist/gallery owner, builder, Seafair clown, volunteer firefighter/EMT and tour bus driver.
Pete was born in Seattle August 13, 1934, to Paul and Jesse (Warden) Andriesen and grew up in Ballard and attended O'Dea High School in Seattle, WA. After high school, he served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. TICONDEROGA during the Korean War. Honorably discharged, Pete returned to Seattle and began working as a draftsman at the Boeing plant in Kent, WA.
He married Clare Irene Mustacich on June 11, 1960, in her hometown of Anacortes, WA. Pete and Clare built their first house on Mercer Island, WA while he taught technical drawing, drafting and computer-aided drafting at South Seattle Community College.
He was a member of the Seafair Clowns and would take part in parades around the Pacific Northwest. Pete and his younger brother Andy formed the Beacon Hill Clown Works to build clown vehicles for use in local parades. It was a common sight to see a bathtub go-cart or a telephone booth clown car running around their neighborhood on Mercer Island.
Beginning in the early 1970s, Pete and Clare, along with their two children Karyn and Thom, built a cabin in Haines, AK. During summer months spent in Alaska, he developed his talent as a pen and ink artist and built a gallery to show his work along with works by other Haines artists.
Pete volunteered as a firefighter/EMT on the Haines Fire Department and was a promoter of local tourism. He was also involved in building projects for the City of Haines and the Southeast Alaska State Fair. Pete designed and oversaw construction of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Haines and the creation of Dalton City from sets originally built for the Disney movie production of "White Fang".
Upon retiring from teaching in 1991, he and Clare built another home on Guemes Island in Washington state's San Juan Islands and spent summers in Hyder, AK, all while continuing to do his artwork and building small homes in locations such as Tokeland, WA.
In their last years, Pete and Clare settled in Anacortes, WA and were active parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Conner, WA.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Clare, his parents Paul and Jesse Andriesen, brothers Paul and Andrew, and sister Teresa.
Peter is survived by his children, Karyn (Michael Danielson) and Thom (Lisa), and grandchildren Nick, Kessie, Madeline and Lydia.
Memorial donations in memory of Pete can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 404 Douglas Street, La Conner, WA 98257, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P.O. Box 326, Haines, AK 99827.
A Rosary will be held at 9:30 am, Friday, November 29, 2019 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Conner, WA.
Burial will be held at 9:00 am, Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Grand View Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
