Donna Nelson Obituary

Donna S. Nelson, age 66 years, of Troy, died on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1943, in Newton, Ill., the daughter of the late Victor and Lois Kennedy Earnest.
She married Paul E. Nelson. He survives and resides in Troy.
Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Craig A. (Judy) Nelson of Collinsville; two grandchildren, Ryan and Ethan Nelson of Collinsville; a brother, Larry (Patty) Earnest of Newton; a sister, Carolyn (Robert) Guilander of Collinsville; her mother-in-law, Mary Nelson of Troy; her brother-in-law: Lloyd (Sharon) Nelson of St. Louis, Mo.; five nieces and nephews, David, Brad, Pam, Deborah and Diane; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Nelson. Donna was a devoted wife and mother. She was an elementary school teacher with the Collinsville School District.
She was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church, Troy. Graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Class of 1965. She was a two time past president and 25 year volunteer at Anderson Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women. Donna was a lifetime servant to her church and volunteer to many school and community activities.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 20, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, and again at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Troy United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., at Troy United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to Mark Alan Nelson Cancer Research Fund, Barnes Jewish Hospital Foundation, Mailsstop 84-84-100, 1001 Highlands Plaza Drive West, Suite 140, St. Louis, MO 63110 or Troy United Methodist Church.
