Smith, Jr., Howard N.

Howard N. Smith Jr., 83 Shawano, formerly of Ashwaubenon, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday evening, May 6, 2013, at ManorCare in Shawano.

Howard was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Ashwaubenon, Wis., a son of the late Howard Sr. and June (Peters) Smith.

Howard attended the De Pere schools and following school, he farmed. He then worked for the James River Paper Company for over 40years. He was a skilled carpenter and built many homes on the side.

On Nov. 3, 1978, Howard was united in marriage to the former Lois Pashouwer at the Westside Moravian Church in Green Bay. Following their marriage the couple lived in Green Bay, Seymour and in 1994, they moved to Shawano.

Howard was a good and faithful member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. He was most active with the food pantry at the church, but also volunteered for the Chili Supper and the annual cookie walk. His hobbies included raising rabbits, sulky horse racing, wood working, camping and attending the stock car races. In his earlier years, he along with his wife owned and operated a commercial rabbit farm in Seymour. He was in attendance at many of the school programs throughout the years. Howard loved to socialize and made many friends along the way.

Howard is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 34 years, Lois of Shawano; his adoring children, Linda (special friend, Bob) Lange, Dan (Lisa) Smith, Ron Smith, Julie (Mike) Hert, Mimi (special friend, Dean) Hatton, Kathy (Steve) Bruger, Robin (Charlie) Henn, Ann (Carl) VanGheem, John (Kathy) Pashouwer, Bob (Beth) Pashouwer, Mary (Bob) Holtz and Cal (Connie) Pashouwer. He also has 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Howard is further survived by two brothers, Gordon (Marilyn) Smith, Ashwaubenon; and Clyde (Barb) Smith, Pulaski; two sisters, Nora (Gene) Corey and Phyllis Gerrits, both of Green Bay.

A sister in-law, June Adekunle also survives him, as do many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Smith; his former wife, Patricia; and two step-children, Tony and Patti Pashouwer.

Funeral services for Howard N. Smith Jr. will be held on Friday, May 10, at 5 p.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Marty Black will officiate. Private family interment will be at the West Side Moravian Cemetery, Ashwaubenon.

Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m..
