Rosella Gillis Obituary

Gillis, Rosella M.

Rosella "Rosie" M. Gillis (Mrs. Orville), 86, Luxemburg died early Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, at Fred and Mamie's Home in Luxemburg. She was born in Luxemburg, on May 3, 1926, to the late Jacob J. and Frances (Rank) Dorner. On June 12, 1948, Rosie married Orville J. Gillis at St. Mary Catholic Church, Luxemburg. He preceded her in death March 6, 2004.

She was a member of the Christian Mother Society and a lifetime member of St. Mary Choir at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg. She loved her position as a beautician and the owner of The Rose Beauty Salon in Luxemburg, for over 40 years. Rosie held a skill in writing and wrote her life story in 1994, her book called "No Turning Back". She hosted a strong faith in God, serving in prison ministry and a Eucharistic minister at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her three sons and one daughter, Mark (Kim) Gillis, Green Bay; James (Gail) Gillis, Denmark; Glen (Kathy) Gillis, Green Bay; Barb (Glenn) Phillips, Luxemburg; five grandchildren, Brenda (John) Jule, Mike Gillis, Amy Phillips, Ryan (Katie) Phillips, Chad Phillips; three great-grandchildren, Levi Phillips, C.J. and Angelica Jule; five brothers, Mike Dorner, Bob (Elaine) Dorner, all of Luxemburg; Jake Dorner, Arizona; George (Gerry) Dorner, Sheboygan; Tony (Lois) Dorner, Arizona; two sisters, Laura Hessel, Kewaunee; Marie (Don) Kassner, Two Rivers; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosie was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jennifer Gillis; five sisters and seven brothers-in-law, Ester (Ed) Newmus, Joe Linzmeier, Hilda (Mike) Peot, Rita (Wilmer) Nighorn, Anna Mae (Clarence) Wisnicky, Joe Shefchik, Theresa (Gene) Trofka; sisters-in-law, Leone Dorner and Mary Dorner; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Alvin (Doris) Gillis, Ray (Lou) Gillis, Irvin (Doris) Gillis, Verna (Clarence) Dorner.

Friends may call at McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. Closing parish prayer service 7 p.m. Visitation will continue between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m., Wednesday at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. My condloences to the entire Gillis family. Having spent many hours of my childhood and adolesence at the home, I'll always remember Rosie as someone who treated me like a son. She was many times like my second mother. She was a kind, patient, loving person. I'll always have a special place in my heart for her.
