I often think of the wonderful memories I had performing and touring with Mike and the Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble---good memories indeed, from his friend, K Gus Gainacopulos Clarinet/Saxophonist

I have many fond memories over many years of interacting with Mike and the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble as their guest soloist on clarinet and saxophone. I did enjoy Mike's hard work with the ensemble, the wonderful ensemble members, and my many visits to Manitowoc, and of course the memorable "Russian" trip---His memory remains strong for those that knew him.

When I was a student of Mike's we were sort of contemporaries as I was an older student and already a professional musician. He was the nicest man and most dedicated professor. We had laughs and serious discussions about music. RIP Mike.

I was, and remain, very saddened after hearing the news of Mike's passing. My condolences go out to his family many friends. I have known Mike for many years dating back (circa 1970) to when I was a teacher clarinet and saxophone at St. Nobert's, and Mike was busy early on in his career.. We both were playing in the Green Bay Symphony at that time. Most important are my memories of my many performances as a soloist with the UW-Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble under his direction. Mike had a very unique skill in bringing area musicians together, programing music which was popular with his audience, and by preparing and conducting many memorable concerts for his greater Manitowoc audiences over many years. The concerts at the "Civic" were often sold out, which underscores the Communitie's appreciation for his skill as a conductor/musician. I was fortunate to have been a part of the "Scandinavian-Russia" Band tour which had a lasting influence on my life as I met my (late) Russian wife, Irina, in St. Petersburg on that trip. So many stories, conversations, and memories remain to share. Thank you Mike. for your contributions in music to your beloved Manitowoc area Community, and for allowing me to be a part of the UW-Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble over many years---you will be remembered, your friend, "gus" gainacopulos

My deepest condolences on the passing of Mr Arendt. He was an excellent teacher and friend to many in the wind ensemble. I was fortunate enough to play the saxophone with them from 1985-1988. He was a lot of fun to be around and will be greatly missed.

My heart breaks remembering the wonderful times, laughing and singing in the kitchen on Sunday's after church. Mike was our brother by choice. He was always in our lives and brought so much music and joy to us, his cousins next door. Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Arendt's passing. I was a saxophone in the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and lucky enough to go to Europe and play abroad in 1987. It's the only time I have ever been to Europe and a trip I'll never forget. He allowed this small town girl to experience the world for the 1st time. Thank you Mr. Arendt!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mike was a fixture in the music scene in Manitowoc for many years, but I also knew him from many of our common Green Bay musical experiences as well as teaching his daughter Rachel violin when she was a girl. Praying that you all will find confort and peace in your faith and in the sharing of many wonderful memories during this difficult time.

How can we forget the Christmas bell Uncle Mike wore every holiday gathering. Or asking us to put our fingers between his so he could squeeze them tight! His laugh was infectious & his sense of humor was great!
