Jerome Chervenka Obituary

Jerome R. Chervenka

Green Bay - Jerome (Jerry) Chervenka, 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

Jerome was born on July 20, 1927 on the family farm near Stangelville to Joseph and Dorothy (Paider) Chervenka. He is the last surviving member of the Joseph and Dorothy Chervenka family. His siblings, Mary, Joseph, Pauline, George, Daniel and Alvin preceded him in death. His mother, Dorothy, wanted her family to remember their Bohemian heritage and sang Bohemian songs to her children. Jerome found peace by singing these songs frequently.

He was a 1945 graduate of Denmark High School. Jerry enlisted in the US Navy in 1946 and was stationed in Norfork, VA. He was honorably discharged in 1948. Later in 1948, he began his 41 years of employment at Fort Howard Paper Company, retiring in 1989.

Jerry met his wife, Dolores Rohr, at a dance in a Kewaunee ballroom. Home on leave from the Navy, he walked up to the redhead and tapped her on the shoulder. They were married on Thanksgiving Day 1949. They continued their love of dancing by attending dances in the Green Bay area until Dolores' death in March 2007. They shared 57 years of marriage.

He was a lifelong Packers fan attending games in the 1950's at Green Bay East High School and was in attendance at the infamous Ice Bowl at Lambeau Field. His cherished season tickets were passed on to his children.

He was a member of Resurrection Parish for 49 years. He instilled the importance of Catholic Faith and Family in his children's lives.

Jerome is survived by his three children; Mary K (Tom) Frymark, Plover,Wi; Michael, Green Bay; and John (Diane) Chervenka, Mission Viejo, CA.

Six Grandchildren: Amy Frymark (Leo) Flores; Andrew (Kasi) Frymark; Amanda Spangler; Karissa Zamora; Joshua Chervenka and Jacob Chervenka.

6 Great-Grandchildren: Elena Flores; Emmy Czachor Frymark; Sabrina Frymark; Gabriel Frymark; Cody Spangler and Ben Spangler.

His Sister in Law and Brother in Law, Orv and Karen Konop.

"We were so lucky to have him as our Dad." From humble beginnings, he was a class act. He is and was what a Father should be. He loved us unconditionally. He always wanted the best for us. He always supported us, got us summer jobs at"The Fort" and instilled a strong work ethic. He was a dedicated employee for his many years at Fort Howard. He lived a long, full life, visited many places, and drove his green Buick everywhere. He lived straight and true, in moderation, with great love and care to all those he met. The list of "Jeromeisms" will be cherished and shared.

There is great joy knowing he will be dancing with Mom again.

A Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection Church, 333 Hilltop Dr, Green Bay will be scheduled in the near future. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Proko-Wall Funeral Home at 1630 E. Mason Street Green Bay, Wi 54302, www.Prokowall.com.

The family wishes to thank AseraCare Hospice for their guidance during this difficult time.

The family also sends a thank you to the staff at Courtyard at Bellevue.

Jerry was a wonderful man! I’m so happy my grandma had the company of such a simple and caring soul while she was here. “Jer bear” meant a lot to our family and our grandma Mary. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am so sad to hear of Uncle Jerry's pasting. He was a very kind person. I loved watching him dance around the dance floor so gracefully. He will be missed.

Jerry was the person I worked with for my first “real” job - of course at the Fort. He instilled values of honesty and hard work more than any other co-worker I ever had. That one summer (1974) influenced me more than any other. I will never forget Jerry. He was a true gentleman. RIP Jerry.
