Henry Clarke Rodgers

Greenville

Henry Clarke Rodgers, Sr., 96, died peacefully on April 9, 2012 in Greenville, SC after a brief illness with his loving family nearby. A native Atlantan, Clarke was born on August 31, 1915 to Joseph Thomas Rodgers and Leila Jones Rodgers. He grew up in a house that his father built on Josephine Street. Clarke had an exemplary career of over thirty years with J.M. Tull Metals. Other than opening a branch in Greenville, SC in the 1960s and residing there for 15 years, he always lived in his favorite city of Atlanta with his beloved wife of over seventy three years, Kathleen Herrin Rodgers. Clarke was a long-time member of the St. James Methodist Church in Atlanta. He also served as president of the Pleasantburg Rotary Club in Greenville. Into his nineties, Clarke exercised regularly at the Day Wellness Center in Dunwoody. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his wife, family and friends. In addition to his wife, Clarke is survived by his son, H. Clarke Rodgers, Jr and daughter-in-law Maria of Dunwoody, GA; daughter, Lynne R. Hannon of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Tracey, David (Leslie) and Steve (Christie) Hannon of Greenville, SC; Clarke M. Rodgers of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren Ashley, Taylor, Jake, Beau, Steven, Olivia and Ali Hannon, all of Greenville, SC; sisters Leila Mae R. Vaughn of Gray, GA; Mildred R. Thurman of Atlanta, GA; as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Buncombe Street Methodist Church in Greenville on Thursday, April 12 at 11:30 am in the Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank www.ACFB.org or to a charity of choice. A private burial will be held at the Senoia City Cemetery, Senoia, GA. Arrangements made by Crematorium Society of SC.

I had the opportunity and privilege for working for Clarke in the 1950's at the Tull Co. A true gentleman as well as a great leader and manager. He will truly be missed.
