Paul Erwin Obituary

Paul Lawrence Erwin

Greenville

Paul L. Erwin, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home in Greenville, South Carolina.

Paul was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 2, 1942. He was the son of Harley and Esther Erwin, and brother to Don (Carleen) Erwin, Janet (Bob) Adams, and Rosalie (Joe) Parks and was proceeded in death by his sisters Sharon Erwin and Beverley Lane.

Paul and his wife of almost 40 years, Marcy, raised their children on a farm in Cave Spring, Georgia and had recently moved to Greenville, South Carolina following an extended illness. Paul was a true entrepreneur. He owned and operated many different businesses including News and Gift stands, a jewelry store, convenience stores, a butcher and deli, a dry cleaning business, a car rental business, and vending machines to name a few..... He and his wife Marcy also founded Primrose Schools 35 years ago in 1982 on their home property in Marietta, Georgia. The curriculum for this school was conceived and developed based on what the Erwins dreamed of offering their own children. An 8-acre campus grew to include 16 classrooms, farm animals, nature trails and gardens. The concept was very well received and eventually led to the first national educational childcare franchise in 1989. Today there are over 350 Primrose Schools located in 28 states.

Paul Erwin will always be remembered as a fair and honest man. He devoted his life to his family and children, protected, and nurtured both with utmost vigor. He was a man that never shied away from his responsibilities. He always went the extra mile to make sure those responsibilities were met setting a fine example for his children and grandchildren. He was simply a friend to all and his fair mindedness earned him the respect of so many.

His loving wife, Marcy, and son Spence (Mary Katherine) and their children Harley, Teagan and Henry survive Paul. A daughter Meggie (Buck) Bradberry and their children Mae and Hank also survive him. His loving son Henry James Erwin preceded him in death on September 21, 2007.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12th in the Kings Hall of First Presbyterian Church 101 E. 3rd Ave., Rome, Georgia. A memorial service will follow in the sanctuary of the church. The services will conclude at Floyd Memory Gardens on Hwy 411 in Rome at which time the Mackey Lodge #120 F & AM Masonic Lodge will render funeral rites and act as pallbearers.

In Lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to Harbor House Child Advocacy Center P.O. Box 5143 Rome, Georgia 30161(www.nwga-cac.org).

Paul was a wonderful gentleman and an excellent mentor during our time working together at RCB. Whenever I look at purchasing something now I recall his question to me ... "Is this just nice - or is this necessary?" Wise words from a wise gentleman.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Erwin family during this difficult time.
