Geoffrey Winters Obituary

Winters, Geoffrey J.
Geoffrey J. Winters, born in Brooklyn, NY to Dorothy J. Stevens Winters and James J. Winters on December 9, 1942 passed suddenly January 7, 2014, in Greenwich, Ct. Geoff , "Wints" was an athlete from the time he was very young, showing a strong interest in tennis, paddle tennis, skiing, football and ice hockey. After becoming an accomplished student athlete, he went on to shoot for the United State Marine Corp, learning skeet and trap shoot, to which he was skillfully accomplished beyond his years. A sport he loved tremendously. Geoffrey moved to Greenwich with his parents when he was young and was the son of an accomplished corporate lawyer for the US Government and Dictaphone Corporation. His Mother was a successfully real estate broker in Greenwich. Geoff graduated from The Brunswick School, in Greenwich, CT and went on to attend The New Hampton School, graduating in 1962. After New Hampton Geoff attended the Sorbonne, in Paris France, majoring in European Economics, and The George Washington University, majoring in Economics. Later, he went on to attend the New Your Institute of Finance to prepare himself for a long and successful career on Wall Street. His pedigree of being a direct ancestor of Robert Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence & financier of the Revolutionary War, is no surprise when you realize the legacy he went on to create in the business world.
While in college Geoff decided to enlist in the U. S. Marine Corps. This is where he developed his keen eye for marksmanship. He was honorably discharged, Lance Corporal in May of 1972. After service, he started on Wall Street and later went on to become Managing Directors for some of the big Wall Street Investment houses, like Lehman Brothers, Paine Webber and Grunthal & Co. He structured private & public offerings, for over 50 companies, won 30 plus awards for his deals & loved every second of the game. He had an intelligent sense for numbers and knew how to strategically structure several types of deals. After a long stretch on Wall Street Geoff decided to fund a company and later on one simple idea evolved into a co-invention of an award winning, innovative Carbon monoxide detection & shut down system for furnaces. Eventually, this product went on to corner the market. The name of the company was Ultraguard Corporation. Having his own company was his dream and he approached the growth, R & D, and learning curve with extreme optimism. Several years later Mr. Winters went on to more creative endeavors and he loved being on his own and working with small to mid size companies. He was a member of The Belle Haven Club of Greenwich, Ct and the Glens Falls Tennis & Swim Club, to which he proudly sat on its board for the past 1 ½ years, while in the Adirondacks. Additionally, he was a past long standing member of the Camp Fire Club of America, Christ Church of Greenwich and The First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls. For many years he was a resident of Greenwich, but in the past few years he had retired to Queensbury, NY with his wife and two small children and here he could ski after school with the girls, take rides to Vermont, go swimming in Lake George and visit many of the spectacular Adirondack attractions, a place he loved very much. He is survived by his wife Tia R. Winters, of Queensbury, NY, their two children, Alexandra R. Winters & Alyssa J. Winters. Also, he is survived by his beloved oldest daughter, Christina Winters Blaustein and her husband Howard Blaustein, from New York City, which was from his first marriage to Janie Larkin Miller of Greenwich, CT and Charleston, SC. He was also survived by his second wife Dana Monro Winters, of Darien, CT. This summer he became of proud grandfather of Reife Blaustein. He is also survived by several cousins on both sides of his family. The funeral services were privately held @ Christ Church in Greenwich, Ct. Thursday January 16th . In Lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to "The Winter's Family Educational Trust Fund", for Alexandra and Alyssa Winters (11 & 13). The fund is being established by Greenwich friends of the family. Please send checks to The Winter's Family 43 Cedar Court Queesnbury, NY 12804, made out to the fund name.

Dearest one,

This week in particular, you seem to be popping up everywhere. Songs that I dedicated to you, songs that you liked and songs that were special to just you and me. I was thinking last night that although your memory seems to be fading, it isn´t gone completely, and it never will be.

The girls are both out of college, and Christina is happy with her two children & life... Time went on without you although we never wanted it too. It´s just part of the dying process, but one thing is for sure is that everyone who loved you loved you wholeheartedly and you really couldn´t ask for anything better in life.

You have many people honoring your memory and I know that is something that would make you very proud. It is September 24,2025... I am sitting here watching the rain, wondering what you would be doing if you were here. Time has really flown since you left us and I still can´t believe you´re gone, but no one is forgetting you, so if you´re reading this just know it doesn´t get any easier.

So a song came on the Internet today that played one night at a party at Belle Haven and we got up immediately and danced. As soon as the song came on, your name popped up in a reminder about some thing regarding your Facebook contacts... I immediately thought it was you and I knew you were around, and if spirit has any Say in these things then it was definitely you reaching out to me and that made me feel good.

Hope you are enjoying life in the spirit world.

Love, me

My Dearest Geoff,

Today is the 10th anniversary of our last Christmas together; my heart is filled with bittersweet memories of that special Christmas we shared. Though it has been a decade since we last saw you, your presence continues to be felt in many ways, especially during the holiday seasons.

I remember the joy & warmth you brought to our family gatherings, & how your laughter filled our home with happiness. The love & light you brought me, Alexandra, Alyssa & Christina are cherished & remembered with every passing year. While we feel your absence deeply, we also celebrate who you were & hold close the beautiful memories we made.

On this significant anniversary, I want to express my enduring love for you. You will always hold a special place in my heart, & your spirit continues to guide & inspire all of us who loved you.

Your kindness, strength, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on my soul; Geoff, I carry that with me always. Thank you.

As I write this & honor the memories of our last Christmas together, I do find comfort in knowing that our love transcends time. You are forever with me, & I am forever grateful for the love we shared.

Christmas will never be the same, but I will allow this specific holiday to be a remembrance
of what sacrifice is about, in more ways than one.

With all my love, Tia

We just reached the 8 year mark since your left us. It has not gotten much easier, but your absence is still there. Each day gets a little easier & we know you have been guiding us along the way. We all hope you have gone into your next journey with peace & happiness. After all, this is what these journeys are about. With gratitude that you were with us for so long, but not long enough.

Much love, Tia

Geoff,

Time is passing and the tears have almost gone away, but I will always miss you. You were the best part of my life thus far and a day doesn't pass where I don't think of one memory we shared.... we had so many. What comforts me is when I feel your presence around. My dearest one, I wonder where your soul has gone... I know we will be together again, somewhere/sometime. Til then... much peace.

Good morning Geoffreys wonderful family. Although you grieve the loss of your father, you know and still can feel the love he gave you. Keeping your dad in your heart, your thoughts, and your spirit of caring is the warmth of your dads smile in your heart. God bless you
