Joan O'Leary Scholtes of Greenwich CT passed away on April 25, 2016 at The Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home in Greenwich, CT. where she received excellent care for close to 5 ½ years.
She was born on December 9, 1933 in Middleport, PA to William and Elizabeth Connelly O'Leary.
Joan was always creative in many arts and crafts activities and was well known for her talent as a watercolor artist. She was very active in The Art Society of Old Greenwich for over 35 years, and for many years served as vice-president. For ten years, Joan headed the arts and crafts senior group at St Catherine of Sienna in Riverside. Their handcrafted efforts were always quickly sold out at the annual Christmas Bazaar for the benefit of the parish.
Joan married Paul J. Scholtes, originally of Minersville, PA on November 25, 1961. They lived in New York City until they moved to Old Greenwich in 1968.
Her husband and her life long close friend Helene O'Neill Thomas of Middleport PA and many nieces and nephews survive Joan. Her parents, brother William and life long close friend Barbara Budresky Cowhey predecease her.A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Avenue, Riverside, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.
Respects can be made in the church from 10 AM prior to mass. Immediately after mass there will be a reception in the church hall.

Paul, Sorry to hear of Joanie's death. I'm Bill Watson's daughter, Janice. Bill is in School yard Square Assisted Living in Pine Grove. He will not be able to come to the funeral, but if you could call him next week at 5709156774. He didn't have a number for you.
