Eleanor Travis Obituary

Eleanor Ruth Jackson Travis was born February 4, 1938 in College Park, GA. She attended the University of Georgia, Class of 1961, earning her Bachelors Degree in English Literature and History. Married for almost 42 years to her husband J. Frank Travis, they had lived in Houston, TX, Morris Township, NJ, Hagerstown, MD, London, England, Franklin Lakes, NJ and for the last ten years in Avon, and Shohola, PA. Early in her marriage she worked as a stockbroker and teacher, later raising their two sons and supporting her husband as a full time homemaker. She worked in many charitable and school related organizations over the years and especially enjoyed the many years on the Women's Committee of the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. She died at Hartford Hospital (March 21, 2003) after fighting a three-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. Besides her husband Frank, she is survived by her two sons, T. Eric Travis of Avon, and J Gregory Travis and his wife Karen Lazar of Castle Rock, CO. Her grandchildren, Brooke Allison Travis and Grant James Travis in Castle Rock, CO; her sister, Margie Elliott of Atlanta, GA; and her brother, Andrew Jackson of Charlotte, NC also survive her. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Ave., Hartford. Burial will follow in West Avon Cemetery, Avon. Calling hours are TODAY, from 6-8 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004 Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
