Daniel Patriss Obituary

Daniel J. Patriss, 96, of Newington, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2020 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (DesChamplain) Patriss. Born in the Parkville section of Hartford, son of the late Vito and Maria (DeLuco) Patriss, he graduated from Hartford High School in 1942 and was a Newington resident for over 50 years. Daniel served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed on a ship in the Aleutian Islands as a Morse code radio operator. After his discharge, he was employed as a mailman in Bishop's Corner for almost 30 years until his retirement. Daniel was an active parishioner with St. Mary's Church, volunteering for Bingo and other activities. He enjoyed sports, and was a fan of the Whalers, Yankees, Giants, Celtics and UConn Women's basketball. He loved to golf and attended the GHO regularly. Above all, he was a selfless and giving person and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves his three children, Cynthia and Corinne Patriss of Newington, and Daniel Patriss, Jr. of SC, his four grandchildren, Steven Patriss, Danny Patriss and his wife Laura, Tony Patriss and Stephanie Patriss, and four great grandchildren, Alex, Leala, AJ and Hayley. He also leaves his sister Lucille Petow of Newington and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank, Dominic, Joseph, Rose and Angelina Patriss, and Sue McDonald, Mildred Barrett and Antoinette Savard. His family wishes to thank his home health aide Maria, for her care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. He will be laid to rest with military honors at West Meadow Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111 or Annunciation Parish (St. Mary's), 626 Willard Ave., Newington, CT 06111. Cindy, Corinne and Danny: Your father was larger than life. It was his presence that made our family gatherings so memorable. I've played many rounds of golf, but none were as entertaining as those played with Uncle Dan. He will be missed by all.
