1943 - 2016

Laura Lee (Bushnell) Cassandra, 73 of Rotonda West, FL and long time resident of Newington, CT; passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2016. Laurie was born on April 29, 1943 in New York, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Henry Bushnell, her sister Joyce Ann Farmer, her brother Henry Bushnell and her forever missed daughter Lisa Nash Stoddard. Laurie retired as the Assistant Director of the Annual Fund at Hartford Hospital after 32 years of service and fulfilled her lifelong dream to move to Florida. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves behind her beloved husband of 48 years, Anthony Cassandra, her son, Daniel Nash and his partner Ginny, her daughters, Leslie Cassandra Ferreira and her husband Tom of Newington, CT; Kim Christopher and her husband Lawrence of Boca Raton, FL as well as her many nieces and nephews. Laurie's great pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Josh Frink and his son Aiden, Daniel Nash, Ryan Nash and his son Austin, Alexander Charif, Sabrine Charif, Michael Cournoyer, Quinten Stoddard and Antonia Laites. Laurie loved going on cruises, and made lasting memories with her family on these trips, especially the cruise to Italy to celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary. An amazing amateur chef, Laurie was happiest when she was cooking and entertaining her family and friends, always making sure no one ever left her home hungry. She loved spending time on her lanai overlooking the water and watching beautiful Florida sunrises. Laurie was fun loving and her generosity and concern for others wellbeing were unmatched, she was adored by all that knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:45 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home , 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Laurie's family on Saturday prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:45 p.m. Burial will be held in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington at the convenience of the family. The family request contributions be made in her memory to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. or the Salvation Army.
