MACALUSO, Albert Carl Albert Carl Macaluso, of West Hartford, died on Wednesday, (January 5, 2004) after a long illness which he endured with the grace, humor and faith that marked his life. He was born of Italian immigrants on November 4, 1914, in Hartford and spent his life in the Hartford area. He was educated in area schools, Weaver High School and the Franciscan Seminary in Lowell, MA. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Upon returning, he worked with the First National Stores. In 1942, he married his wife Helen and soon after opened his own market on Broad Street. From 1975 until 1984 he was employed by United Technologies in East Hartford. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen (Meaney) Macaluso. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Winnie Martinkovic and her husband, Joseph, of Waterbury and his son, Most Rev. Christie A. Macaluso, Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kristin and Scott White of Middlebury, Lauren Martinkovic and Justin Martinkovic of California, his great-grandchildren, Andrew and Olivia White, and his sister, Lee Peters. Besides his wife, he is predeceased by his father and mother, Dominic and Santa (Liberti) Macaluso, his brothers, Thomas, John, Samuel, Joseph and his sisters, Theresa, Rose, and Concetta. Albert was a devout Catholic, a communicant at the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a charter member of the Cathedral Council Knights of Columbus. He will be waked at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave., Hartford on Sunday, from 2-5 p.m., and again on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m in the Cathedral. Burial will take place in the family plot at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Cathedral Food Pantry, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, 06105. Parking is available in the Cathedral Parking lot off Asylum Avenue. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Home, 180 Farmington Ave., Hartford.
