I had been referred to George for therapy 47 years ago following a severe bout of depression related to my move to Connecticut from NJ and was struggling on many levels with my first job as a newly married teacher without social or family supports. He and I worked together for about 3years as he helped me move forward to create the life and career that I love. Today for some reason I thought of him and all he helped me to accomplish and was greatly saddened in finding out about his passing. My memories of his care and compassion are with me to this day and my heart goes out to his family and friends.

I was very sad to learn, almost a year after he died, of George's passing, and send my sincere condolences his family. George was my therapist for some time over twenty years ago, and his personal warmth was as important as any more professional skills. He was always cheerful, composed and present in the encounter. I shall always remember him with affection and with gratitude.

George was an outstanding psychologist who made enormous contributions to the field and his important work of relieving human suffering will live on through his students. He was a great classmate at BC and a good friend for all of our lives.

George will be dearly missed. I am so grateful for his teaching and mentorship that instilled in me a curiosity about the world, an aim to understand without spin the world's challenges and triumphs, and a passion to help people make our world a better place. I carry the lessons he taught me each day as I try to pass forward the impact he had on my life for my students. Thank you George.

George was an incredible mentor whose wisdom has stayed with me through the years and continues to guide me both in my work and in my day-to-day life. He was generous with his time and his warmth in addition to his wisdom and I am thankful that he shared his gifts with me --it was an honor to be his student. I offer my condolences to his family and to all of those who mourn him.

George was a wonderful teacher, mentor, colleague, and friend. His life touched mine as it did so many: his legacy is both lasting and far-reaching. He would love that this condolence page links to evidence-based information about grieving and loss, and I personally appreciate that one of the suggested donations in his name is to the PSC fund - he was always a great supporter to both research and practice. I will miss him, and my thoughts are with Lynne and all of his family.

I am so sorry to hear of George's passing. He was truly a special person, who made a huge difference in the lives of many people, and he will be missed.
George was my major advisor when I was pursuing my PhD at UConn, from 1982 - 1987. His supportive advising was instrumental in getting through the process. He helped every step of the way with getting my masters and doctoral projects done.
But even more than that, George was a friend and just a really nice person. We had fun together. I especially recall that we used to run together. Much of the supervision of my research design, implementation, and analysis was completed while we went on lunchtime runs!
Subsequently, it was always a pleasure to run into George at a CPA meeting, and to receive his newsy annual holiday reports.
I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from George. He made a big difference in my life. My sympathies to his "families" - both to his immediate family, and to all of us whose lives he touched.

I am so sorry to hear about George’s passing. He was by far my most important influence and mentor. He was a perfect blend of supportive, uplifting, encouraging , rigorous and tough. He was not afraid to show his own vulnerabilities which enhanced the delicate teaching of psychotherapy in which he was so engaged. He lives on in the work of so many of his students.

I'm so sad to learn of George's passing. He was the chair of UConn's clinical psychology PhD program during my years in the Department of Psychology (2000-2004), and having just completed my training and begun my career I so valued his kind, welcoming spirit, his humility and humanity, and his support of and pride in his colleagues and students. He maintained a safe and nurturing environment and advocated for those whom he represented, in both the larger Department and overall University contexts. It was a privilege to know and be mentored by him, and I extend my condolences to all who mourn his passing.
