Bette M. Jones

1939 - 2020

Bette Jones, of Farmington, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 of Covid 19 complications. Bette was born on August 24, 1939 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Celia and Thomas McTague. Bette was raised in Providence Rhode Island and Willimanctic, CT, eventually raising her family in Farmington, CT. She attended Windham High school and much later in life she proudly graduated from Springfield College. Bette was known for being a collector of people, laughter, and good stories. She will also be best remembered as "the bartender" at the Keg Restaurant of Farmington. Most days before the doors even opened there were cars in the parking lot waiting to have her greet them, similar to "Cheers" and yes everybody knew her name. Mom always knew more about a person in five minutes than we'd get out of them in a lifetime. If anyone needed anything, she's find a way to make sure they had it- including the best "odds" from each of Sunday's games. Bette was a self -taught painter who took great pride in her entries in several art shows. She enjoyed traveling with her friend Sue Ellen Chandler who she was predeceased by. Bette was known for being sharp witted and intelligent and had a true love for reading for which she passed on to her children. Bette will always hold a very special place in the hearts of her children and those who she met and collected along the way. Bette is survived by her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Galvin of Glastonbury, CT, who made Sunday afternoons so special. She also leaves behind her loving family Megan and Todd Kozak of Farmington,CT, Toby Sherman of Astoria, N.Y. and Casey Jones and her partner Morgan Blount of Harwinton, CT. The family would also like to acknowledge Kathy Grant of Terryville, CT, for her friendship over the years. She also leaves behind Motley, her grey parrot and Abby her cat. Bette took great pride in her grandchildren. She leaves her loving granddaughter Ashley Codianni whom she shared a wonderful bond . She also leaves grandsons Jake Aubert-Jones and Luke Aubert-Jones of Harwinton, CT, and Travis Fenway Kozak of Farmington, CT, Bette also leaves a loving nephew, Patrick Sullivan and niece Melissa Williams. She was predeceased by her husbands Robert Sherman Jr. and David L. Jones and her loving Godson Thomas Sullivan. The family would like to thank Dr. Sandra Sciappa and Diane Wilcox for outstanding care and friendship. We also would like to thank the staff of Apple Rehab in Avon especially Walter and Julie and Sharon. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Ahern Funeral Home in Unionville. Her burial will be private on Block Island, a place that the family holds in their hearts and finds comfort in knowing she will be in her favorite place.
