Leslie Stephen ETTRE

ETTRE, Leslie Stephen Leslie Stephen Ettre PhD, 87, of Middletown, world renowned Chemist and Scientist, passed away peacefully Tuesday, (June 1, 2010). Dr. Ettre was the beloved husband of 51 years to the late Kitty (Polonyi) Ettre. He later married F. Irene (O'Keefe) Ettre on May 1, 2009. He was born September 16, 1922 in Hungary relocating to Norwalk Ct in 1958. Dr. Ettre graduated from the Technical University, Budapest and obtained a doctorate in chemical engineering. He held positions as a chemical engineer, department head, and senior scientist, specializing in Gas Chromatography. He spent the majority of his career as a Senior Scientist with Perkin-Elmer. Dr. Ettre was a Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Professor at several universities; Veszprem University, Budapest Hungary, the University of Houston, TX, Johannes Kepler University, Linz Austria, and Yale University, New Haven. He travelled the world over and lectured at many other Universities and chemical symposiums and received numerous honors and awards for his professional accomplishments. Dr. Ettre authored and co-authored close to 300 scientific publications, 20 books, editor and co-editor of 42 books and was a member of many professional chemical societies. In addition to his wife Irene, Dr. Ettre will be dearly remembered by his daughter and son in law, Julie and Bernie Dudek of Wethersfield; his cherished granddaughters, Tessa and Caitlin Dudek. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dr. Ettre's life will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Inurnment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford on Monday. A calling hour will be held in the church one hour prior to the mass from 10-11 a.m. Dr. Ettre's funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield.
