He was my sixth-grade teacher at Emerson Williams when he was very young. (I will be 70 later this year.) That year was the one year of schooling that I really enjoyed, although I went on to get a BA, MSW and JD. He was a great teacher and managed to hold this ADHD student's attention at all times. Why? He was so smart, interesting and made learning fun. Better yet, along with my own father, he was a great example: he taught all of us how a truly good, ethical and kind man conducted himself. I'm so glad that so many had the opportunity to know him over 87 years, but even that was not enough. To his family, friends and everyone who knew and revered him, his passing is almost too much to bear. He was too loved and needed to be taken from us now (or maybe ever). I knew this world was a good place as long as he was in it. I can't be sure of that any more.

Dear Jane,
I am so sorry for your loss of such a great man. I started my career at Highcrest School when Jack was the principal there. I was moved to two other schools before landing at Charles Wright and had the pleasure of working with Jack again. When I think back on those days and my time with Jack as my principal, I remember him as kind, interested in what you had to say, very caring about each individual student, and a fun-loving person. He will be missed.

I grew up playing basketball with Jack at Charles Wright Gym and then Hamner school on Friday afternoons. My brother (who was much older use to take me with him from the time I was 10 years old, 1978). Over the last 15 years My brother and I have found ourselves reflecting often about those days and we concluded that Jack was the one person that made them memorable. I have never seen anyone make a shot from half court with the consistency he demonstrated. He played unselfishly and as such imparted knowledge to me that would never be forgotten. Even as basketball ended because of his back, I graduated College, and Wethersfield C. C. was the only place I would run into him, He would still ask me how I was doing as if I was one of his students (which, sadly, I never had the pleasure of being) It was a testament to how much he cared about every kid he interacted with. My brother and I truly feel blessed to have known him. Our sincerest condolences to his wife and family, he will be missed.

What a privilege to enjoy and benefit from Jack's leadership at Highcrest School when our 3 children were in their early educational years. Such a fine man! He set the standard for what a school principal should be in how he related to students, parents and his fellow teachers.

It was a joy to go to school each day at Charles Wright because of Jack. As I began teaching, he hired me for a third grade position, then a second grade position and finally a kindergarten position. I owe him my career in Wethersfield. He was always such an accessible and flexible administrator, which made teaching a pleasure. My condolences to his lovely wife, Jane, and family. Hope Harris

Dear Mrs. Ferguson, Lynda, Nancy and extended family,
My deepest sympathies and condolences to all of you, especially today as you lay Mr. Ferguson to rest and peace. A letter is following, but you all were such a special part of my life, and for our family, for so many years... and, still today with so many great memories of our times together, not forgotten. Included, Mr. Ferguson was very much a second father to me among the Dads back in those days, a great mentor, friend and talented doubles partner for the Pine Acres crew too! I've thought of him and your family many times over the years, and still do. Along with my Mom, Donna and our family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. With love, Dave Batson

I worked as Jack's secretary at Hanmer and he was a very nice kind man. He used to take the troubled kids into his office at lunchtime and play chess or checkers with them so they could have a good quiet time to talk and communicate. I always admired him for doing that. Rest in peace, Jack.

So sorry to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends... Jack was an upstanding, bright and funny man that I had the pleasure of knowing since I was young girl. I also was his (and his familys) dental hygienist for many years at his friend and colleagues office, Dr Tom Gworeks office. Another one of Wethersfields finest that will be missed !
