Joni Norton Obituary
Joni Ellett Norton, of New Hartford CT, died peacefully on August 25 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. She is survived by her husband Matthew (55), son Grant (19), and daughter Skylar (16). Joni was born on June 6, 1964 in Richfield UT, and spent her childhood living in Salt Lake City. Since leaving Salt Lake in 1987, she and her husband of 31 years have lived in the Mid-Atlantic, Southwest, and Northeast US, residing in a country home in Connecticut for the past decade. Joni homeschooled her children and spent months each year traveling with them across the United States. She loved adventuring and hiking in the Rockies, and experiencing things most only see in pictures. Her desire to see the world, and to learn and develop in independent ways was an inspiration, and one that brought her unique insights to the world. Joni's intellect and effervescence was infectious and ever engaging, bringing out the best in those around her. To be in her light was a pleasure, and one that will be sorely missed.

Being one of Matt's big sisters, I've been a fan his entire life (with the possible exception of sixth grade). Separately they were great, but when they came together they created a bigger life full of laughter, good food, and good people. I will always remember our visits fondly, especially their humor at my expense. (Yes, it was some kind of lettuce I ate from their yard in Texas. I'm sure of it.) Their solid kids are a testament to great parenthood. Joni could not have done a better job home schooling, and her warmth and wisdom shine through Grant and Sky. I love you all, and I grieve with you.

Such a heart breaking loss. Joni was so committed to living fully that it is hard to process that she is gone. Holding Matt, Grant and Sky in my heart at this tender time.

Joni is my cousin and I knew her quite well growing up. She is a beautiful person, with many talents and abilities. I attended her wedding to Matt 31 years ago. She was a beautiful bride and the wedding setting in the mountains was awesome
