To the Alves Family,

I wanted to let you know how sad I was to read about your mom's passing. I spent many nights with her, my dad Art Tavares, and my Uncle Rui Tavares, playing Fado at local clubs. She was a great talent, and an embassador for Portuguese culture. She will be sorely missed.

My condolences to the Alves family. I knew Maria when we both worked at the All Star Dairy Co in South Hadley. She always had the best interest of the business at hand. Though I now live in California I knew many of the Fernandez family when I lived in South Hadley. A nice lady. May God rest her soul.

Several years ago I attended a dinner at Walter Wicks studio and Maria sang for us. It was such a memorable night; we absolutely loved listening to her and especially loved her stories. We could all tell she was a great lady. I bought a CD that night, which I listen to still many nights in my kitchen while making dinner! I will always remember her.
