To the Alves Family,
I wanted to let you know how sad I was to read about your mom's passing. I spent many nights with her, my dad Art Tavares, and my Uncle Rui Tavares, playing Fado at local clubs. She was a great talent, and an embassador for Portuguese culture. She will be sorely missed.

To the Alves family
I have fond memories of Maria from the years past when I grew up in South Hadley, when everyone seemed to be connected in some way or another. Our daughter Chris is married to her nephew Dan and they also have "special" memories of her. Those memories will always be cherished.
Our love to her family,

Please accept my sincere condolences on Mamie's death. I have many memories of hearing her sing throughout Massachusetts. I enjoyed hearing her sing and speaking with her. I remember John from when I first came from Portugal and we all hung out at the Portuguese Club! It has been many years! I am sure that the wonderful memories you have of your mother/sister/etc. will bring you great comfort!

My condolences to the Alves family. I knew Maria when we both worked at the All Star Dairy Co in South Hadley. She always had the best interest of the business at hand. Though I now live in California I knew many of the Fernandez family when I lived in South Hadley. A nice lady. May God rest her soul.

My sympathy to all of the family.
I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Sra. Maria Alves a few years ago and she was such a beautiful lady with a great voice. She enjoyed singing the Portuguese Fado and had fun doing it.
At this sad time we shall remember the wonderful times that her performances provided to many.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family, specially her son John.

Several years ago I attended a dinner at Walter Wicks studio and Maria sang for us. It was such a memorable night; we absolutely loved listening to her and especially loved her stories. We could all tell she was a great lady. I bought a CD that night, which I listen to still many nights in my kitchen while making dinner! I will always remember her.
