Ruth V. Nyez

Ruth Virginia (Slotterback) Nyez, 72, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Michael Thomas Nyez for 53 years. Born in Shamokin, PA, daughter of the late Marvin and Ruth Manulla (Barnes) Slotterback, she was a coal miner's daughter raised in Mt. Carmel, PA. Ruth lived most of her life in Hartford. Having worked 34 years in Hartford Hospital's Dept. of Medicine, her enthusiasm, knowledge, and guidance could always be counted on. She was a fixture in their doorway on the 11th floor, always greeting people with a smile and a full bowl of candy for the residents (who she referred to as "her kids"). Along with her husband, she leaves her children, Michael Nyez of Hartford, James Nyez and Amanda Botticello of Whitehouse Station, NJ, and Jonathan and Elizabeth Nyez of Newington, her grandchildren, Jackson, Sofia, Benjamin, Samuel and William. She also leaves her siblings, Marvin, Ted, LuAnne Allard, Randy Manulla, her sister-in-law Carol Szczapa and husband Ricky, nephew Joseph Szczapa and his wife Laura, Bruce Allard, and niece Jennifer Allard. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
