Richard Dobmeier Obituary

DOBMEIER, Richard L. Richard L. Dobmeier, Sr., 86, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday (January 19, 2008), at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (Burr) Dobmeier. Born in Hartford on June 29, 1921, he was a Wethersfield resident since 1959. "Dick" attended Weaver High School, Hillyer College, Ohio State University and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Corps of Engineers. Mr. Dobmeier was employed by the State Highway Dept., now ConnDot, Hartford and later worked for Tilcon-Tomasso, New Britain from 1959 to 1987, retiring as the Director of Marketing. He was a member of the American Legion, Bourne-Keeney Post, and was Santa Claus at many children's Christmas parties in Wethersfield. He was also a member of the Wethersfield Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Greater Hartford Transit District and several Town of Wethersfield Building Committees, past president of the Connecticut Bituminous Concrete Producers Association and a member of the Connecticut Association of Street & Highway Officials. Dick was a lifelong Red Sox fan and also UConn Men's & Women's Basketball Fan and Wethersfield Men's Softball League supporter. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cooking, swimming and walking in and around Mill Woods Park, but most of all he loved being with his family. He was a giving, devoted, loving, proud and caring person who will be missed by all. He leaves his five children, Richard L. Dobmeier Jr.and his wife, Patty, Ronald Dobmeier, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Susan M. Buckland and her husband, Tom, all of Wethersfield, and Robert J. Dobmeier and his wife, Ann, of Rocky Hill; his five granddaughters, Melissa and Elizabeth Buckland, Kara, Carolyn, and Laura Dobmeier; his great granddaughter, Zoey Williams; his special friend and companion, Mary-Lou Brakoniecki, of Rocky Hill. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Maple View Manor, 2nd floor for keeping him comfortable over the last few months and Hartford Hospital 9th floor ICU. His funeral service will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, with the Rev. Jane White-Hassler officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
