Jeanette Rarus Obituary

RARUS, Jeanette Dora Jeannette Dora (Landry) Rarus, 90, beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Rarus, entered peacefully into eternal rest on August 8, 2009. Born on March 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Dora (Reeves) Landry. She spent her childhood in Enfield and graduated from Enfield High School in 1936. During early World War II, Jeannette worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as an inspector of small engine parts. During that time, Jeannette fell in love with Joe, also an Enfield native. When Joe was drafted into the Army Air Force during World War II, she followed him to Tampa, FL, where he was stationed teaching physical education to pilots. Jeannette liked to recount that there were only five people in the church when they married on October 14, 1942—she and Joe, their attendant couple, and the priest. Following another military assignment in Georgia, they returned to Enfield at the war's conclusion, where they raised three children and lived for the rest of their lives. Jeannette was a communicant of St. Adalbert Church in Enfield. She was a former member of the Royal Neighbors of America and had been an active member in the American Legion John Maciolek Post Auxiliary #154, having served several terms as President. After her family was grown, Jeannette worked for several years at G. Fox & Company, but returned home to take care of Joe during his four years of illness preceding his death in 1979. Jeannette greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She liked to knit and was an avid reader. Jeannette will be missed by the many people that she has touched during her life. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, she is survived by her son Richard of Enfield, her son Robert of East Providence, RI, and her daughter Pamela Gran and her son-in-law Alfred Gran of Simsbury. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Diane Gran of Newington, and David Gran and his wife Melissa of Newington, and by one great-grandson, Isaac Gran. She also leaves her sister, Germaine Ruderman and her husband Norman of Niantic, and her brother, William Landry and his wife Dolores of Norwich and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral procession will gather at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Avenue, Enfield. Burial will follow in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Enfield. Jeannette's family will receive family and friends during visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 10, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels. Jeannette's family would like to thank the staff at Blair Manor Nursing Home, Enfield, for the loving care which they provided to Jeannette during her stay. Jeannette's family would also like to thank Dr. Younus Masih, Jeannette's physician, and North Central Hospice and Palliative Care for the compassionate and dedicated care which they provided to her. Memorial donations may be made to St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Avenue, Enfield, CT 06082. For expressions of sympathy and information please visit www.leetestevens.com.
