Forrest Warner Obituary

Forrest Walton Warner, passed away Friday, (June 27, 2003). She was born February 20, to the late Willie and Ella Belle Myrick Walton in Buena Vista, GA. She grew up in Hartford, and upon graduating from Weaver High School, was hired as one of the initial African American operators at the Southern New England Telephone Company. She was a member of the Tenas Proposito Sorority whose goal was raising funds for African American women to attend college. In 1959, she married Jacy David "Dave" Warner II and from their union two children were born. She traveled abroad with her husband, a member of the U.S. Air Force, and eventually settled in Las Vegas, NV. She began working for Clark County Personnel in 1976 and rose to the position of Director of Human Resources. She retired from her position at Clark County McCarran International Airport in 1999. Forrest was actively involved in many civic associations including the Southern Nevada Coalition of Concerned Women, the League of Women Voters, University Medical Center Auxiliary, Democratic Women and a host of other charitable organizations. Forrest, devoted mother, grandmother and sister; avid golfer, and lover of fine cuisine, was known most for her unique ability to establish strong relationships with many individuals through her strong personality, endearing sense of humor and her innate ability to spark a conversation with anyone. However, it was the quiet evenings spent walking her granddaughter or shopping at the mall with her grandson for school clothes or hosting family gatherings where she will leave her most indelible mark. Left behind to cherish her memories include a daughter, Shelleye Warner, and a son, Jacy David Warner III, both of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Dr. Gladys Hall, of Washington, DC; a brother, Myrick Walton, of Hartford; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Warner of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Jacy David Warner IV and Lovely Forrest Kennedy Colby Warner-McRoy, both of Las Vegas, NV; and a host of other relatives and close friends. A memorial service will be held at The First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Avenue, Bloomfield, on Saturday, September 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at Forrest's favorite charity: Southern Nevada Coalition of Concerned Women (SNCCW), 8625 Copper Knoll Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
