Frederick Warner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home - Dover on Feb. 4, 2026.
Frederick Thorne Warner III (Thorne), 77, of Barrington, New Hampshire, passed away on February 1st, 2026, and was received into the loving arms of his eternal Father after suffering an unexpected aortic aneurysm.

Thorne was born on April 14th, 1948, to Louise McKinney Warner and Frederick Thorne Warner Jr. in Port Chester, New York and spent his boyhood in Greenwich, Connecticut. From his earliest days, Thorne's father was instrumental in instilling a profound love of sports, a love that drove Thorne to achieve the highest distinctions among the numerous teams in which he was involved, and that carried well into his adulthood. After graduating from Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts in 1966, Thorne attended the upper sixth form at Malvern College in Malvern, England. Thorne often spoke fondly of this time in his life. Returning to the states, he then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 9th round of the 1970 MLB draft where he played two seasons with the Cedar Rapids Cardinals and one season with the St. Petersburg Cardinals. After retiring from his professional baseball career, Thorne resumed his studies and completed his degree. He then went on to have a long career in the insurance industry.

After retiring from insurance, he developed a passion for working with students with learning disabilities. In his free time, he dedicated his life to coaching and mentoring many children, as if they were his own, always committed to helping them realize their highest potential. Additionally, he was passionate about singing barbershop music, avidly following his favorite sports teams, sailing and golfing in his younger years, perfecting his craft on the grill (especially his famous smoked salmon), and sharing his infectious laughter with the world. He was a dedicated and faithful family man, always throwing himself into his children's interests, intensely proud of all their accomplishments, never wasting an opportunity to sing their praises.

In 1994, he met Margaret Ann Miller in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They shared 32 beautiful years together with their large, blended family, initially in Pennsylvania and then in New Hampshire. Thorne and Margaret's life was defined by a passionate and unwavering love for each other and their children. Together, they created a home full of laughter, a love of learning, gardening, travel, sports, seaside outings, and, most importantly, time with their family.

Thorne was predeceased by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Margaret, and his children: Cameron Warner, Ann Whitney Warner, Eric Ashton Miller (Brianna Rose), Joshua Thorne Warner, and Elias McKinney Warner. He is also survived by his two brothers, Chris (Mary Jo), David (Keri), his sister, Claire, whom he lovingly called "Clairsie", and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7th, at 2:00 PM at St. George's Episcopal Church in Durham, NH**. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to the Barbershop Harmony Society*.

As his barbershop family says, "Keep the whole world singing".

Thorne was a wonderful man that I always enjoyed spending time with. I was fortunate to coach both his youngest boys in youth baseball and watch them grow into fine young men. He loved his family, his music and baseball (big time Yankees fan even though he play professional ball for the St. Louis Cardinals). RIP my friend, you will be missed and never forgotten
