Margaret SIBLEY Obituary

SIBLEY, Margaret Warren Margaret Warren Sibley, beloved wife of Arthur E. Sibley Sr. passed away peacefully on April 17, 2010 at home with family at her side. Born on Nov. 19, 1934 in Jacksonville, FL, Peggy was the youngest daughter of the late Walter Townsend Warren and Marguerite Mac Rae Warren. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Bessemer, AL. She attended Birmingham Southern College, where she majored in Speech Therapy and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1954, she moved to NYC taking a job with the American Red Cross and where she met her husband Art on a blind date. They were married in 1956 in Riverside, CT and made their first home in Meriden, CT. In that same year, she helped start A.E Sibley, Inc. where she worked until 1992, while raising four children. Later moving to Middletown, she was active in the PTO, the Westfield Colony Club and made countless arrangements while serving on the Church of the Holy Trinity alter guild. Her other achievements would include her Presidency of St. Luke's Home & the Middletown Garden Club. In 1988, she and Art moved to Old Lyme, where she happily served on the St. Ann's Vestry (Old Lyme) and was a docent for many years at the Florence Griswold Museum. Then, in 2003 they moved to Old Saybrook. Peggy was a loving wife and nurturing mother. She had many lessons to share with her family, leading by example to be kind & thoughtful of others. She loved working the earth, planting seeds and enjoying the beauty of nature. Her home always included fresh flowers, which were typically grown by her. Her other passion was cooking, sharing her southern hospitality with all her guests. Her multi-tasking always seemed effortless. She always did things with a flare of elegance. She will be missed by her husband Arthur and her children Skip Sibley (Sheree) of Old Lyme, Katharine Edmonds (Bryson) of Birmingham, AL, Stephen Sibley (Laurel) of Moodus, CT and Anne Groleau (Michael) of Traverse City, MI. She was able to share a beautiful Easter weekend at her home with all her family including all eight grandchildren. She is also survived by an older brother Richard M. Warren of Naples, FL. There will be a Memorial Service celebrating her life next Friday, April 30. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church located in Old Lyme. Donations in her memory can be made to St. Ann's Church, 82 Shore Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371.

Peggy was a grade school and high school friend. We lived a block apart and I remember many summer nights sitting on the curb, under the street light, in front of her house on Exeter Ave. She was an early sweetheart and special to me. My sincere sympathy and may God strengthen you in the days ahead.

You have my deepest sympathy. Peggy was truly a special and talented young lady in high school where I knew her and she obviously carried that quality and more forward in her family life, community service, and business affairs. It’s certain she was a blessing to all who knew her and the impact of her absence is beyond measure. May God be with and comfort you all in your loss.
