SESSIONS, Glo
Glo Sessions, 89, a well-known Connecticut artist, beloved friend, mother and grandmother, passed away on November 20. She was at home in Avon, surrounded by her family. Glo was born in Waltham Massachusetts in 1922 and grew up in Wellesley Hills. She graduated from Skidmore in 1943 and moved to Greenwich Village in New York. There she worked in the advertising department at Macy's and met her future husband, Jim Sessions. They married in 1945 and moved to Paso Robles where Lieutenant Sessions was stationed. After the war they returned to Bristol. Glo raised 5 children, and took up her artwork again at the age of 38. She maintained an active career as an artist for 50 years, creating paintings, etchings and sculptures, exhibiting in shows from Washington DC to Maine, and received over 40 awards for her work. She was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Connecticut Watercolor Society and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, among others, as well as a founding member of the Gallery on the Green in Canton. Her works are in the permanent collection at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Glo taught art classes for several years in Bristol, and since 2000 her work has been showcased in the Glo Sessions Gallery at the Carousel Museum, also in Bristol. Her husband Jim Sessions passed away in 1995. For the past 15 years Glo was the loving companion to Joe Gnazzo, of Bristol. Glo is survived by her 5 children and their families: Paul and Gayle; Ruth; Tulis; Don and Roxanne; Molly and Peter; and her grandchildren, Nick, Colin, Rachael and Gabriel, and Gabriel's mother, Joanne Williams.
