Aunty Ange, Aggie, Happy, Roseanne and the rest of my cousins and Aunts, I'm so sorry for our loss. John was one of my favorite cousins. I have many happy childhood memories of Chalker Beach!! He was an incredible person and I, along with you, will miss him very much!

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. V. His impact on all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him can not be put into words. He was my 6th grade teacher at South Side School. Both my sister had him as a teacher for 6th grade at SSS. I will always consider him a mentor and friend. He was the best instructor I had and his lessons transcended the 6th grade curriculum. The lessons learned in his class have inspired me and guided me throughout my life. I heard about him as a 1st grader and was intimidated by "Mr. V." Fortunately I ended up in his class. I met his children and attended his wedding. To this day I consider him one of the inspirations in my life. My prayers and thoughts go out to you. God Bless!

Mrs Varricchione, Hap, RoseAnn & family

Please accept my condolences.

Even though I have not seen John in years I have many fond memories of chasing around saybrook with him as teenagers. Even though some of us may have been a bit rowdy at the time, john was always a gentleman and was loved by all.

It is evident by the above comments that he remained the same admired person that i knew.

Of all the teachers our daughter, Jen, had over the years, "Mr. V" was the most influential--and the only one to become a true, lifelong friend.

God bless you always, Mr. V, for the legacy you bestowed on your students, and for the wonderful person that you are.

And to your family, we give our condolences and send our heartfelt prayers...

This is truly an unfortunate loss, Mr. V was a great teacher and a kind spirit. I was fortunate to have him as my 7th grade history teacher at Chippens Hill, he had a way of demanding our respect while enriching our lives with his knowledge and genuine kindness. To his family, I am truly sorry for your loss...I had Mr. V during one of my own parental losses which without him and another teacher I am sure I would of never made it through. No words can ease the pain you feel but know he truly left a legacy that will be cherished for years to come as all of his former students, family and friends remember the various lessons he taught day in and day out. RIP Mr. V...go on to glory!

First, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of Mr. V. My thoughts and prayers are with you all in this difficult time. Next, I would like to take a moment to say what a wonderful man he was. He made an everlasting impression on me, at first as my 6th grade teacher and as the years passed, as a friend and mentor. His teaching abilities reached far beyond the confines of a classroom. I am eternally grateful to have had him in my life and truly believe that I am where I am today, in good part because of him. His wisdom and heart will live on in all of the lives he touched. I am so thankful for his guidance throughout my life and will do my best to share all I have learned from him about teaching, learning, life and unconditional love. Thank you Mr.V for everything!! ~Rhiannon (Barkoski) Harvey, aka Bright Eyes

First: To the family and friends of Mr. V., I offer my condolences and prayers during this difficult separation. Take comfort in knowing that he has gone on to eternal and indescribable joy, and we will, one day, be re-united with him and share his joy.

Next: To Mr. V. I hope you are enjoying your time in that Great Teachers' Lounge in the Sky! You were simply the BEST teacher a kid could ever have, in every way. Thanks for everything.

Finally: To the grade-6 class of '68/'69,(Mr. V.'s second year of teaching at South Side School, Bristol) -- indeed, we are all sad; but what a year we had together, '68/'69! Paderewski Park, Rockwell Park, Mexican Village, Indian Village -- complete with a tee-pee in the classroom, sock-ball at recess, with Chapulis and Majewski knocking it out into the old basketball court! Yeah, what a year. And let's not forget; we actually learned, thanks to Mr. V.s thoughtful and interesting lessons. What a pro. Too many stories to mention here. How remarkable is it that after 44 years I can still remember (with some help from Carello and Webler), the names of just about every student in that year's class. That says a lot about the positive educational and social experience many of us had with Mr. V. -- to say nothing of the life-lessons and moral/ethical education we took in -- and that I relayed to my own students, years later. Mr. V.s methods and practices were very much cutting-edge for the time. But we, as young students, just loved going to school each and every day.

Thanks so much, Mr. V. You were a great man and a great teacher, and I will never forget you!

Mr. V was among the finest teachers I ever had. He inspired me to do my best, go out on stage and lay it all out forgetting what anyone thought about it. He taught me to be comfortable with who I was created to be, and I will never forget him. It is teachers like him that inspired me to be a teacher and to look at every student as the shining star they are. Thank you, Mr. V. for giving your lives to touch others. I was forever changed, and will never forget you. Stacie (Krystofolski) Worley, Mr. V's class of 1986, South Side School.

Mr. V, your presence and legacy will live on in each student that your humor, love for learning, and smile touched. I attended South Side School from 1979-1985 and he, along with all the great educators, made a huge and positive impression. I was able to get my shy self on a stage and perform with his support and guidance. Now, I too am an educator who hopes to inspire the lives of my students as he inspired mine. Wishing you peace. I was so extremely sad to see the news of the passing of my absolute favorite teacher, Mr. V. He always taught his classes out of the box... so unlike any other teacher I ever had. He taught us creative ways to remember things while we studied for tests and he was such a fun, yet at the same time very strict teacher. His students always had such respect for him because he had respect for them. Every student always wanted him for a teacher because of the tee-pees in the classroom at the end of the year, but what they didn't expect was how much they'd learn from him.
Rest in Peace Mr. V and know that you had a great impact on so many lives... especially mine. You will be missed...

I am going to piggy back off of what Ms. Lucy (Bourgoin) Harris said. I was also in that 6th grade class and remember it as if it were yesterday. Dear Varricchione Family,
I was so sorry to read of the passing of Mr. V. I was a student of his in 1976 when I was in the sixth grade. I will never forget his exuberance in class and I can tell you he was one of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had. There were tons of great things we did but the most memorable was a film that we made to celebrate the Bicentennial that year and also having class in teepees while learning about Native Americans! Although it was 36 years ago I remember him as if it were yesterday, he was that special. My thoughts are with you in this time of grief.

May your memories of the love and laughter and joys and tears that you shared comfort you during this time and every time you see your children smile, remember that's your husband, John saying hello too. Love you, Sheila (Putnam) Strong and family xoxo
