HELFRICH, Bernard Daniel Bernard D. Helfrich, age 77, of Trumbull, died suddenly on Friday, (February 10, 2006). He was born in Lawrence, MA, and was a long time resident of Trumbull. Mr. Helfrich was a lifelong educator, he started his career as a teacher in Trumbull in 1955. He retired as the superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Bridgeport after 27 years of service with the Diocese. Degrees include a B.S., M.A., a six-year certificate and honorary Doctor of Letters from Sacred Heart University. He was awarded the Knight of Saint Gregory, he was the chairman for the Board of Finance for the town of Trumbull, a charter member of the Trumbull Rotary Club, president of the Seniors Club, at Tashua Knolls golf course, and a member of the Board of Directors for the St. Vincents Special Needs Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He will always be remembered for his smile, his positive attitude, happy spirit, and his willingness to help anyone that needed him, without reservations. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Therese "Terry" (Welch) Helfrich; his loving children, Daniel Helfrich and his wife, Kathy, Matthew Helfrich, Patrick Helfrich and his wife, Colleen, Katherine and her husband, Thomas Clyons, Mary Anne and her husband, John Moriarty, all of Trumbull. A sister, Kathleen Monahan of FL; ten cherished grandchildren; Sara, Stephanie, Danny, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Brendan, Jack, Erin, Brian, and Christopher Bernard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bernie's memory to St. Catherine of Siena School, 190 Shelton Rd.
